This is what I learned to drive in: 1964 international scout.
 3-gears, a low that would climb walls, utterly gutless at freeway speeds (had a 4 banger slant engine). Brother's car which he was pretty generous with loaning to me. He drove it one morning till it locked up TWICE due to lack of engine oil* (he wasn't too keen on maintenance) and sold it eight years later for what he paid for it! *He had an early morning paper route and the gas stations weren't open till 8:00 or so, when he could buy a quart of oil. |

The other scenario is when power and economic considerations are put aside, the inbreeding comes about because you're just in a very clannish low-trust society or culture, that's very focused on the family or tribe.
