Many of you are familiar with the Gambler 500 and the shows Roadkill and Dirt Every Day (cheap truck challenge episodes). This is the Arfcom version of the challenge. I made the official thread with approval from the Mod "Quintin". Due to the vast geographical differences of the site members here, we should see some pretty cool rides if there's participation.
The purpose: Buy and build the coolest, cheapest, or most unique vehicle while following the rules The goal: Much like anything else we do for arfcom - Have fun and maybe meet fellow arfcommers The rules: *This is done on your own dime and time, participation is voluntary The year is 2019, which means you can spend up to $2019 on the purchase your vehicle. Not a penny more. It has to be street legal After the purchase of the vehicle, you can spend up to an additional amount of $2019 to spend on repairs, upgrades, paint, etc. If your vehicle costed less than $2019, you can use the rest of the first $2019 ontop of the money you spent on mods; For instance, if you paid $500 for a trailer park 3rd gen camaro on cinder blocks, you can use the rest of the first $2019 ($1519 left) on mods as well. The whole thing will cost $4038 at most. If you wish to sell it after the challenge and make your money back, great, if not, well you just got yourself a new vehicle. Has to be COC compliant and you must post pictures in order to be part of the competition If you happen to have parts sitting at home, such as a fitech EFI system or headers or a crate engine, feel free to use it since you had it laying around and it's not costing you any money to purchase it anymore. Must run and drive by the competition end date: December 1st Participation and winning trophies: All Participants will receive a BFL sticker in the color of your choice. Coolest Vehicle: BFL Sticker + Choice of arf t shirt or bronze membership Ugliest Vehicle: BFL Sticker + Choice of arf T shirt or Bronze Membership Cheapest Vehicle: BFL Sticker + Choice of arf T shirt or Bronze Membership Winners will be chosen via Poll I will participate but since i'm the OP of this, My vehicle will not be entered to win at all. My Contribution 1994 Ford Bronco. 351W, E4OD, 245K miles, King ranch seats. Total Spent: Vehicle - $1200 Title and Registration - $197

Does the vehicle need to be road worthy in all 50 states?
It's a lot easier to put a junker on the road in Illinois (of all places!) than Missouri. |

OP, you mentioned title fee's, are we counting those? Makes it kinda unfare to people in some states. Some people may be floating the title.
Anyways, almost all of my daily drivers cost me under $2019. I just got a '97 Camaro for free. I've got a '93 f250 I paid $1100 for. A 2000 explorer I paid $1700 for. Do these have to be vehicles I bought after I read about the competition? |
1996 nissan hardbody Initial cost $500.00 Replacement long block $0.00 was given to me @$200.00 for new gasket set, timing chain set and oil pump. TaxTagsLicense plates@$212.00 iirc Replaced windshield $200.00 New rear bushings @$50.00. update: 7/16/2019 add a new set of exhaust rocker arms to the list $80.00 had a tapping that started last week, normally it will go away in a few minutes or if I restart the truck this time it didn't so I investigated and found 3 of the hydraulic lifters (built into the rocker arm) were stuck and one was collapsed after a good cleaning I got the 3 unstuck but one of them was bad too, so I just replaced all four. keep in mind this is my daily driver for my 100 mile commute per day!

| Wow that Nissan is in great shape on the outside. Was that a southern car? My BIL had one a long time ago. I always thought it was interesting. The 4 cylinder in it had 8 spark plugs. |

not playing but..
picked this up for $1300. new power steering return line $150. tow bill to bring it home. $400. my sons been driving it for 2 years now trouble free except for 1 control arm bushing.

5/12/2019 - Costs = Truck in OP - 1200 Rust converter - $8.99 Antifreeze - 11.99 (has coolant leak I think?) Cant really tell as it's random. I don't think the truck is burning it up. Doesn't go through a whole lot of it Tan paint for topper - 7.19x2 = $14.38 Gold paint for the wheels 9.44 Total spent = $1244.80 
Yes I realize that the wheel paint looks like ass up close. I do not intend to keep the wheels forever so I don't really mind. It's just for fun anyways I do need to buy lots of interior parts and upgrade the headlights, along with re-doing the hack job wiring every previous owner seems to do with their broncos |

Previous year, so posted for inspiration. I won't have time to build one this year. It was a low budget build, zero outside labor. The green 48 Ford has a low buck craigslist engine and trans. The silver one has a divorce deal craigslist racing engine. The other two have crate engines. |

I work a ton of OT so having a grand on hand isnt really that hard. And yes everyone's higher than hell when it comes to pricing. Some vehicles arent worth the time even if they are desirable |

First time I ran across that. Fit like it was made for it! Even used factory trans crossmember, holes about lined up with TH350. Had to slightly hog out holes, maybe 1/8" total. Did have to swap HEI, or would've had to really massage firewall. Was going to go old school with old, smaller points dist, but went cheap $43 eBay with breakerless. |

I see a lot of used vehicles in this thread. I decided to go new.
This crate arrived at the house. Attached File Took a peek inside. Attached File All together. Assembly wasn’t too bad. Took a couple evenings. Attached File It’s a Chinese enduro, engine is a pushrod Honda clone 250. Street legal in most states. They are intended for markets like Africa and South America with crummy roads and poor maintenance, but they are developing a following here in the US. Only 9 miles on the odometer but I’m pretty impressed with this bike so far. 
So far I’ve swapped the carb and jet, spark plug, changed the engine and fork oil, and put in a sealed AGM battery. Bike: 1399 Carb: 30 Jets: 11 Oil: 13 Fork Oil: 15 AGM Battery: 22 TOTAL: 1490 |

Gotta keep this thread alive I've been here since 2012 and some of you may recall a few years ago another thread I made on a 1987 Ford Bronco. I still have that truck (getting a diesel swap now, things sweet) and this new Bronco and the old one have a huge thing in common The previous owner butchered the wiring harness. My weekend will consist of pulling old wiring out and redoing it correctly |

Got plates for the Hawk and took to some nearby trails. Will need a heavier rear shock, bottoming out on this one. Starter motor seems weak, will try to get it replaced under warranty. Other than that, this is FUN! Learning how to tune a carb. Went up a jet yesterday and seems to be running stronger. Will continue experimenting. Attached File |

Attached File Falls outside the rules but I bought a 2007 F150 FX4 for $4500. 217K miles, no leaks or noises. Needed a beater truck for HD trips and the like and this one fulfills that role. Will be driven less than 5k miles a year. A few dents but runs good. |

| Unfortunately the next 3 weeks for me are going to be spent at Basic Leadership Course so I wont be able to see the cheapo bronco for a hot minute. I'll be taking my wiring harness to a repair shop when I get home. I dont have the tools to do the repair at home. |

She rips now ...my 3 year olds favorite car now and he walks past my 10 sec 2000 Camaro SS to go for a ride In "the blue turbo stealth"  .As an edit I just bought it 3/?/ 2019 |

OK, I’m in! Just got a 1995 Pontiac Firebird, with 70,000 miles, for $1500. Tax, tags and title were $135.
Runs OK. Needs a lot of cleaning. Headliner is sagging, radio missing buttons, carpet is shot, power windows are painfully slow, paint is “meh”. Pluses are new brakes, tires, recent front end work. Let the depression begin! |

Update Sold the bronco. Never had time with all my other projects to get around to fixing this one Also my daily driver F250 is getting pretty worse for wear and I broke down and bought a newer vehicle Looks like my F250 that I've been driving since I was 16 is now an official cheap vehicle. Will post pictures in the upcoming week or so |
