Train derailer devices are in every train yard...they clamp on the track.

They are small and if painted black are hard to see.

It's cheap. It gives people a feeling of having at least done something to prepare for potential radiation exposure.

I live in a studio apartment 15 miles downwind of an Air Force Base. I have no delusion about what might happen.

I think the take away from that video is that this war has got a lot of people worried and thinking about the very real possibility of freaking nuclear bombs coming their way.

Probably even more so than during the Cold War.

He can’t claim credit for it, he’s just dusting off the ol Soviet playbook.

Russification

Deport citizens of one area, move in Russians, teach only Russian language and history, ban everything else. Send military groups from one SSR to quell unrest in another.

It’s the gift that keeps on giving and it’s the reason there’s still trouble in the former republics. He can claim that he’s protecting Russians because his predecessors put them there ON PURPOSE.

Yes. And yes, there's places where survival will likely not be likely because we killed the civil defense program decades ago.
If they happen to live suburban and are deliberate and smart, survival is almost a given though.
It's far from a helpless situation.

Wasn't there a WWIII plan, back in the 80's, to pre-position large amounts of vodka and other liquor in the path of advancing Russian forces?

Could something like that be used to totally disable the invading Russians?

WARSAW, Poland (AP)  A bipartisan delegation of U.S. lawmakers visiting Poland said Saturday that the most urgent need in Ukraine's fight against a Russian invasion is to equip and support the country in every way that will help it defend its independence.

The seven-member delegation led by Rep. Stephen Lynch, a Democrat from Massachusetts, has visited reception centers for refugees from Ukraine in eastern Poland. They noted Poland's openness in accepting refugees from Ukraine, including in private homes. More than 2 million people fleeing war have come to Poland since Feb. 24, when Russia's troops invaded Ukraine.

"We are here to reassure and support the people of Ukraine. We are here to thank the people of Poland for the unbelievable generosity they have shown to the refugees," said Lynch, who is chairman of the subcommittee on National Security in the Committee on Oversight and Reform.

During an online meeting with the media Saturday, the American lawmakers stressed the need to urgently assist Ukraine's military in their fight against Russian forces. They said there is no room for peace talks as long as there is a "hot war."

Inside UKR, the rail junctures run through the cities.  For starters, as long as the UKR continues to hold their cities, they also hold the rail junctures within and prevent Russian use for resupply.

The third largest city in my country was nearly completely destroyed in WWII. The Estonian population was forcibly removed and replaced with Russians so that now only 5% of residents are ethnically Estonian (and over a third of residents have Russian citizenship).
If a ceasefire is enacted,Putin will bus in Russians who will have claimed to have lived there forever, under Nazi oppression.

Also see Kaliningrad. Russia NEVER had ANY connection to East Prussia. They just took it from Germany at the end of WWII, and all the Germans either fled as fast as they could or were ... deported. I say make Kaliningrad Koenigsberg again mostly as a joke, because there's almost nobody alive now whose family came from there who still has any connection to the place. It's sad. Koenigsberg was a great city in the German sphere, one of the really great cities of Europe. Then the Russians took it.

If you blow the rail lines they will just bring it in by truck.

A long line of fuel tankers on a rail line is a much easier target to destroy.

They have already attacked some of the supply trains with drones.

Having them on the rail lines makes them a static target that is easy to attack.
