We all see it. Calm down. This day has been coming for along time. You best wrap your head around it and only worry what you can control.

I was a little late to the story and heard they had all died right off the bat   Another horrific tragedy at the hands of Russia. Just plain horrible.

Could be about Sweden.  Their parlinent just voted to end the arms embargo against Turkey.  Throwing the Kurds under the bus was one of the main impediments to joining NATO.  Could alao be about Nordstreem sabotage.

Double blow for Putin as Ukraine kills another of his colonels in 'pinpoint' missile attack in Kherson and 'eliminates top Wagner commander' in Donbas

Two more senior Russian military and intelligence figures have been killed, bringing yet more woe to Vladimir Putin as Ukraine's armed forces drive deeper into the eastern Donbas region to liberate more occupied territory.

The first, Aleksei Nagin, was a highly respected commander in the infamous PMC Wagner Group - a private army headed by close Putin ally Yevgeny Prigozhin - which has been instrumental in supporting Russia's invasion.

Nagin, a three-time Order of Courage recipient, was killed on September 20 as Ukrainian troops advanced further into the Donetsk and repelled Russian forces.

Meanwhile in the southern Kherson region, Colonel Aleksei Katerinichev - a career FSB secret service officer and deputy head of Russia's occupying forces in Kherson - was hit in a 'pinpoint' strike by a HIMARS missile today, according to a Russian news agency report.

Katerinichev was a veteran of more than 20 counter-terrorist operations and a key architect of Russian operations in southern Ukraine.

The deaths of such esteemed military personnel just 10 days apart underscores the frailty of Putin's 'military operation', even as the warmongering Russian president today signed agreements formally incorporating the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions into the Russian Federation.

Zaporizhzhia and Kherson are only partially controlled by Russia, while Putin's troops in the key city of Lyman in the northern Donetsk have been almost completely surrounded by Ukrainian forces in the latest counter-offensive.

Russia is not really "all in".  It's really the same as before putin's announcement of some Ukrainian lands as russia.

This announcement is intended as leverage for NATO to limit arms usage by Ukraine further.  However, the NATO press briefing later today will be to tell putin that NATO does not consider these four Ukranian regions as russia, and therefore Ukraine are free to use NATO weapons to expell the invaders from these regions.

Can you elaborate on what the rules of the road are for NATO supplied weapons?  Seems like russia proper is off limits, but i am not sure by whom and to what degree.  I cannot seem to find anything that spells that out.

Exactly. Might as well have some fun with it.

What’s the quote? “Go hide in a hole if you like, you won’t live one instant longer “?

This shit weasel in the kremlin could end this now. Hell, he could have never started it to begin with.
Whatever happens is on HIM. Squealing that we can’t take steps on dealing with the situation, seeing as this is what...the 4th time they’ve tried stealing land and invading foreign countries in the last 14 years, has gotten us exactly where we are at this point

Issues that I can come up with:
Spare parts shortage:
Pilot shortage/pilot morale.  The issue of Wagner pilots is an interesting unanswered question.  They appear to be of very questionable quality, so what made it necessary to hire merc pilots?  Is the pilot shortage really that bad?
Ground crew shortage and/or incompetence
Consumables shortage (i.e. flares/chaff)
PGM shortage leading to unacceptable loss rates
Inadequate air/ground communications/tactics causing red on red issues
Successful (but unknown) Ukrainian tactics/capabilities.  The series of separately released videos last week where two SUs and a KA were shot down may be related.  I strongly suspect that such shootdowns are not random defensive action but deliberate flak traps.  The best proof of that is probably the video from several months ago where three Russian helis were shot down   But the UA appears to edit/break up most such videos to prevent anyone getting a really good idea of what happened beyond confirmation of a shootdown, which is absolutely the right thing to do.  NASMS and IRIS-T are likely to bring a new level of pain to the Russian AF.

IIRC, during the invasion of Georgia in ‘08, the Georgians shot down a MiG and captured the pilot, who turned out to be a senior Flight Instructor.

If Putin and his regime remain in power and NATO continues on its current course, Russia will deploy an NBC in some capacity. Am I suggesting we stop arming UKR? Hell fucking no. Fuck Russia. But we need to be actively planning with the assumption that Russia will use a WMD in the near future if the course of events is not altered. I'm not saying anyone needs to shit their pants; they just need to assume Russia will do what they say they're going to do and plan accordingly.

If NATO gets directly involved in Ukraine, this invasion would be over in a couple of days without a shot being fired into russia, or any russian targets not in Ukraine.

He, the orc leader, wants NATO to consider those four Ukraine regions as russia, and subjected to the same restrictions as russia proper.

Orcs want Alaska back as they believe that somehow the purchase was illegal.  They also believe that parts of California are russian as well and want those back.  This is the area around Fort Leggitt I believe. Their view is that the north side of the GG bridge is on russian land.

What alternative do you suggest?

Putin has already decided how far he will take this, now it has to play out.

If the West gives in to nuclear threats where would it stop? What would China and any other nuclear armed state do then? You want to kiss ass until they roll through Nebraska?

How Ukrainian Tank Crews Near Kharkiv Seized A Position Called 'Moscow'

During a September counteroffensive by Ukraine's armed forces, about 400 towns in the Kharkiv region were liberated from Russian occupiers. Ukrainian tank crews spoke to RFE/RL about how they launched a surprise attack that pushed out Russian troops from their fortified positions.
