The patch is the original shape of the 1st Special Service Force. It was a combined US and Canadian unit led by BG Robert Frederick. Fredrick was a total badass, awarded two DSCs and eight purple hearts. The 1st SSF was a combat unit, and the patch was that shape, red, and had USA and CANADA in it. The movie "Devil's Brigade" was about them.  Taking that patch and making it a combined Ukraine/Canada unit is cool if it was a combined combat unit, but if that is an instructor in the UK and he is training Ukrainians...they are going to combat, and he isn't, then this is kinda sketchy. Okay, off my soapbox. |

My guess was that either 1) it was small arms fire from a range such that it’d gone subsonic or 2)We don’t hear impact explosions, so it can’t be incoming mortars (to their position) but I suppose it could be mortars passing overhead and landing quite a ways away. |
