Out of sequence, but keep in mind this:

- Winter losses can be largely localized to Wagner in Bahkmut
- These losses are well within the prison recruiting #s for Wagner
- Other fronts are largely static - for months
- Where are the mobiks?

Russia has taken the better quality recruits from the mobilization and are training them up.  There are a lot numbers, better trained, coming.

Zelensky has travelled to the front lines on several occasions, for all you know he is standing there now.

When you want to eradicate pigs from your land. The best way is too draw as many as possible to a good spot. We call this, baiting the trap. A pig lives in an environment that's just not efficient to chase each one down, to kill it. It's best to get them to come to you, that way you can dispatch them, dispose of them and re-set the trap.

The footage of the Ukrainians clearing out that building of Russians has additional video.  Apparently they had a guy step in to look inside and saw the Russians, you can see them firing at him before he backs out of the doorway and falls over.

Yes he has made many trips there during his presidency, before and after the escalation. Easily googled, but some expect him to be leading the charge on the front i guess.

So it sounds like the “launcher issue” isn’t an issue and we’re just sending additional launchers with the right software.  I like it!

Have spent the last few days reviewing detailed actions in Korea and also the 1st Marine division in Korea. As well as politics before and shortly after (McCarthur got fires, you may remember).

- Bahkmut fits that history very, very well
- Parallels to Verdun, etc, are not correct.
- Mao very much targeted his wave attacks based on technological asymmetry - not casual - I believe Putin is looking to Mao for strategic parallels. Not just for this simplistic reason, but others.
- Do not dismiss human wave attacks as ineffective, or non-decisive

Another teaser for results if you get GentlemanFarmer back: about 20 years ago I was in a dermatology clinic, had a patient with a really crude southern star tattoo on his arm (not the chief complaint).  I asked him if he got that in prison, or Korea, if he knew Chesty (jokingly).  He said he got it in Wonsan, after they got out of Chosin. Gulp.  I stayed and talked to him about that, was about 1/2 hour late to my next patient.

I was trying to catch up, then the "Marcus Welby" type clinic director pulled me aside in the hallway, he said "I saw what you did with your last patient." I thought I was about to get bounced of derm/the clinic. He said, "That was beautiful.  I flew Sabres in the Alley back in the day, I appreciate that." OMG, we bonded and I learned a lot about air combat in Korea, which is very under-appreciated, if I may say so.

I am the Forrest Gump of Louisville, Ky, as noted.

<This.

Russia (Putin) was surprised by the initial failure to take Kyiv last February. They have been scrambling ever since.

Understanding that a convict army with virtually zero training will never work, he is implementing Plan B, which will never work.

I agree. I don't think 2023 is going to end this war.  We (the west in whole) missed the chance.  It is going to become the proverbial "frog boil" whether intended or not.  I have followed your posts all along.  Your posts are more anchored in reality than 90% of the posts here, and the last six/nine months show that.

I have disagreed with several things you said over the last month or two, (mentally, not publicly).  I am glad I kept my mouth shut, your accuracy and credibility grows. ;)

Yeah, maybe. OR maybe the Ukranians are simply being degraded and pushed back as they take too many losses to hold their positions. They are slowly but surely giving ground. The russian plan is to grind forward completely uncaring about how many losses they take.
Either the russian plan is working or the Ukranian plan is working. Zelensky said they will not give up Bakhmut, which could be the truth or it could be bait for the russians. I have no idea.

The more expensive the asset, the more important it is to employ it effectively.  It’s been said repeatedly by our actual fighter pilots that true mastery takes YEARS.  F-16s for Ukraine is a worthy goal, but I don’t see it altering the current short term course of the war.

I like things like the GLSDB - give them longer range precision fire capability that they can use within days or weeks.

What can we do to get PrSM into production now?

What can we do to increase production of artillery shells NOW?

It is my semi-logical belief that the Chinese balloon is being exploited like an intelligence-collection and jamming project for our surveillance and EW equipment, respectively.  That's why I think it hasn't yet been destroyed.

I don't like to think about the other implications if I am wrong.

Having concentrated enemy forces attacking well planned and dug in defensive force with better intel, more accurate artillery and rockets and superior logistics would seem to be a great way to inflict huge losses on said aggressor.

What do I know, I'm just a keyboard commando trying to protect my rights in the USA. I slept comfortably indoors last night while the outside temperature sank to 5 degrees F. The water still flows from my faucets and not one single artillery round disturbed my sleep. A big batch of bean soup and Ukrainian bread from the local bakery filled my heart and soothed my soul.

God bless the men and women fighting in Ukraine! There stoicism and courage inspire me and makes me feel less than. They deserve more than we are giving, may their aim be true and their enemies destroyed!

With the SDB, everyone seems focused on the Kerch Bridge. What I haven't seen mentioned is the Azov ports it brings into range. They got hit a few times early on but the news on them has been quiet for a while.

You must have missed the news. They sent up an F-22 Raptor and blew that damn balloon to shreds with an AIM-9 missile yesterday afternoon a couple of miles off the coast at Myrtle Beach.

I always thought the F-22's first kill might come against China. But I always figured it would be a Flanker variant, J-10, J-20 or J-31, not an oversized weather balloon carrying spy equipment.

I wonder if the Raptor will get a balloon shaped kill marking painted underneath the canopy?

No. Its looking at what we know and thinking about stuff. Its understanding that just because we saw some videos of Russian troops getting crap training in a few places does not mean others have not gone through better training.
We know that all the new soldiers have not appeared on the battlefield so we would like to see what they are up to.

There has been a very strong push by the opposers over the last couple of weeks. If the trend continues they will slide back for a bit to let the heat cool down on them. Its part of a bigger pattern they follow. Apply heat get a few wins then at the moment they can see they might get in trouble back away.

If I was in charge of the russian military I would throw away the wagner prisoners like toilet paper to keep Ukraine busy while I trained up some russian soldiers to be a more effective fighting professional army. I would pull experienced combat vets from the meat grinder to train them as those veterans are now experienced warriors regardless of what side they are on. I would start the spring offensive with a force that is a lot more lethal to the Ukrainians.
Ukrainians need to be able strike supply lines so that the russian soldiers are starving and out of ammo. Then the Ukrainians can break through and attack flanks to make the russian numbers meaningless. Supply lines and maneuver warfare. Get out of the slugfest.

Russia has taken the better quality recruits from the mobilization and are training them up.  There are a lot numbers, better trained, coming.

There's a lot of speculation that Russia is using the "lull" to actually train their troops.

Doesn't really mean anything though if they can't outfit them with proper equipment.
