They will find a way to pump those numbers up; there are going to be slow-rolled tank bumps like this all spring:

Looking at the maps of the fighting around Bakhmut, I can't help but think that it makes a great location for a counter-envelopment by Ukrainian mechanized forces on one or both flanks.

Something which could collapse the Russians in that sector of the front.

That's exactly what I was thinking as well.  Bakhmut is getting reinforcements, but those reinforcements don't necessarily have to be going into the City itself to be useful.

Saturday thread drift....

I had my own breakroom stuff in my office/giant parts room/changing area. I kept it clean.

At 4 of the 5 locations I wrenched at during my career, when the janitors cleaned the breakroom on Saturdays, the fridge got cleaned out. The only items put back in were unopened drinks and condiments that weren't expired.

Even Tupperware style containers got tossed if they were clean and just left randomly sitting on the counter. HR fully backed the policy.

Some people bitched. Most were o.k. with it.

There have been many interviews with the people who stay in various cities, and not a single one is waiting on russians to save them. The vast majority are elderly who have no place to go, and don't want to leave their homes of decades. Many are also like the homeless here. Problem is that the Russians by definition have lots of forces at hand including arty, and their tactical intel is probably better than their strategic intel.
Infantry is almost exclusively doing the fighting in Bakhmut but mobile forces could be and probably are in the rear.

The majority of Ukrainians sincerely believed that Scholz was scared, and that is why he did not share weapons with Ukraine. In reality, things are much worse: he looks helpless as the supreme commander.

-The Bundeswehr is in an even worse condition than a year ago. His ammunition would last only a few days of a real war. Last year, the government allocated €100 billion to replenish military arsenals, but since then not a cent has been spent, - writes the FT based on conversations with the German military.

-Out of approximately 300 Bundeswehr Leopard tanks, only 30% are in combat readiness. During the year, the government did not order a single self-propelled howitzer (although it transferred some to Ukraine), not to mention sets of spare parts for them. A lot of howitzers have been decommissioned, Bild am Sonntag quoted the head of the Bundeswehr Union, Andre Wüstner, as saying.

-In December, the military community discussed the scandal with the newest and most expensive Puma BMP (€17 million per "piece"). During the exercises, all 18 infantry fighting vehicles failed. And mind you, they were not controlled by drills... "Bekhs" of older modifications are mostly stuck.

-The situation in Bundeswehr is so bad that the military is leaking information to the media, and political opponents are liberally criticizing Scholz. And for his helpless indecisiveness, and for keeping Christine Labrecht, a useless minister of defense, until recently.

Literally today, Scholz's girlfriend and predecessor, Angela Merkel, also flew in. "Ukrainians did not join NATO, and it was a big mistake of the French and Angela Merkel. At the 2008 summit, NATO countries promised Ukraine a quick accession. The project failed because Merkel and then French President Nicolas Sarkozy opposed it out of respect for Russia," said Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, head of the Bundestag's defense committee, clarifying that the mistakes must be corrected.

The essence of this story is simple: under the pressure of Uncle Sam, the Germans will somehow try to help us. But everything is so messed up with them that God let them deal with themselves. In any case, Germany is in for a major policy overhaul. In addition, in Germany, Merkel is more and more often referred to as a bunker-buster. There is justice!!!

Subscribe to "Orestocracy", let's unravel the darkness of history together.

https://t.me/bochkala_war/12039

I've said it repeatedly in this thread: Germany is the enemy of the US. Pretty much everything going on right now can directly be places at their blame. Dependence on Russian energy. Greenie cocksuckers and the whole movement.  Sucking on NATO'S tit while other poor nations and the US do the heavy lifting. WW1. WW2. I fucking hate Germany.  Instead of invading Iraq a 2nd time we should have invaded Germany and executed Merkel and all of her followers publicly.  Without German influence and policy, Russia never would have tried this invasion.  Fuck Germany.

I don’t think the US invading another NATO country would be a smart play.  I’m sure there must be a better solution, like, for example, letting them sort out their own shit.

Well, it's not like they could have stopped us. Look at the state of their military.

It looks like that on most maps, but I’m not sure when you account for terrain.  They have to maneuver down from high ground, get in the open and make themselves artillery targets.  The terrain around and west of Bakhmut is very favorable to the defense, and advancing any meaningful distance east is difficult.

I think Bakhmut is, from the Ukrainian perspective, just a meat grinder to crank, and their real resources are going to be spent in the south.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were a handful that wanted to be "liberated". As you said, many do not have the financial ability to leave and live elsewhere. Some people just want to live life, and are not going to cause problems for whoever is controlling the area.

To help the people of Ukraine in the ongoing armed conflict, Polish drone manufacturer Spartaqs has initiated a campaign to collect, service and deliver used recreational drones to neighboring Ukraine. And your unused drone could be a part of this project!

Drones for Ukraine
Spartaqs collects private drones of all brands, DJI being probably the most prominent, and services them to ensure that only fully functional equipment is sent to Ukraine.

The company will replace worn batteries and modify the drones for relatively safe use in a conflict zone: All lights will be completely disabled. In addition, no internet connection will be required, and the drones in question will not ask for updates prior to take-off. Some drones will also be converted, for example with infrared camera systems, to be used as night vision devices.

Thanks for gathering all that AT! I’m going to do that-I have several lying around we don’t fly cuz the dogs are scared to death of them.

I think so, too. Take a smaller town of 70,000 pop before the war.  Now consider that pop will also skew older from decades of youth flight to big cities, Poland, etc.  You can easily get a few K people age 60+ who recall the stability before 1991 and want a return to Soviet days and think Russia can deliver that.

There are some Chinese commercial rifle plates of questionable quality.
There are older Russian vests (thin steel) which are fragment-protection spec not rifle spec.  But they have utility in an artillery war.
There are Russian “riot” vests with very questionable utility even against frag.
I’ve seen all these in use and for a peer war (especially with drones) frankly I think we should rethink our protection strategy and include more frag protection.

I've heard them referred to as "waiters" in one of the UA videos. Makes sense I guess since those Eastern parts held the most pro-Russians.

I doubt the Russians will treat those folks well but "re-settlement" is the least they can do after invading, bombing, and destroying every town in the East. #thankyou for liberating us you russian MF'ers...

They felt that after the complete transition to communism a "New Man" would be created; a selfless, perfectly good man, freed from selfishness and greed. They thought it would be the natural product of the communist system. But, instead it is actually a REQUIREMENT for the system to work.  An impossible requirement.

Communism requires masses of people to become selfless.  To be happy getting nothing in return for strife and sweat and effort. Biologically we are programed to associate effort without reward as failure and failure means starving to death.  It isn't just that we are not programed to be selfless... We are biologically, genetically, EVOLUTIONARILY, hard wired to do the opposite; to navigate the world around us with self interest.  It can't be bullied, threatened, shamed or beaten out of us.

Capitalism channels that self interest towards the common good. If your pursuit of self interest produces something of benefit to others they will pay you money for it. If someone needs a task done that would seem pointless to others, money is offered thereby making it beneficial to the worker performing the pointless task.  That's why it works.  It works WITH the biological imperative of self interest.

Those three paragraphs above might be the most informative description and summary of the failures of communism that I've ever heard. It is so good in fact that I am writing it down and saving it for future reference.

Me too. This is the kind of thing that has routinely popped up in this thread that deserves more than the archive treatment someday.

I’m sending it to a leftist I know now. Just for fun of course because they’re leftist and a lost cause by definition. I just like to hear how they justify it and lie to themselves.

@Auto5guy you’re a thinker- your parents did a good job!

Given enough time, attempts at communism inevitably devolve into something more closely resembling fascism. You don't need to look any further than Russia and China to know this is true. In terms of the state "withering away" (as Marx put it), both stopped trying to be communist a long time ago. Commies in the west use that as evidence that those countries weren't/aren't actually communist, which is correct, but that's because communism is an impossible goal, and this is what it looks like in practice, not in theory.

Exactly right. Communism is a great model for DESTROYING a society, basically for revolution. But it's a terrible, unworkable model for running a society. It's basically a scam to use the poor (proletariat) for eliminating the middle class (key element for a healthy society) and keeps an elite class to rule as mafia bosses.

My family lived through this after WWII. I have lots of stories. My grandparents, being poor people initially supported the communists. They were told idealistic lies about how the people would own everything...until the workers from the shoe factory started taking home shoes. When they were arrested, they were surprised and told the militia "but we own the factory now"...ha, they were sent to labor camp. It's all bullshit used to fool the gullible poor people into rising up against society.

People realized very fast the communist promises of utopia are lies and wanted change. But the people newly in charge never step down. Hell they just arrested or executed everyone who knew how to run the country. Then the police state always starts. It ALWAYS has to turn into a police state because the promise is a lie and even the stupidest people eventually want to go back to the old system. By then it's too late and the criminals are in charge of a big prison and everyone is stuck.

Self interest is the one common characteristic of every creature on earth. Communists believe that this innate self interest is a result of family influences and evil capitalist programing.

Very true. Capitalism relies of self-interest (greed). It may not sound nice but it's true and the natural way of the world. It can have a very positive byproduct.
Communism relies of jealousy and the taking of other's work (theft). It is also a universal human trait but it has no positive outcome.

In communism, you see your neighbor get a goat. You are jealous so you poison the goat or accuse the neighbor of profiteering, get him arrested. No one gets a goat.
In capitalism, you see your neighbor get a new goat. You are greedy and want a better goat so you work harder and get a goat. Everyone ends up with a goat.

Russian or Ukrainian doesnt matter - that is friggin cool looking!

russian armor development continues...

Exploring every possible avenue, the crafty orcs have evolved from the simple "cope cages" seen at the start of the conflict and have now moved on to massive mobile "cope compounds".

Only thing missing is some crushed velvet.

I'm sure there's some fuzzy dice hanging next to the gunner.

And some hydraulic shocks to go into lower mode, high rider mode, or bucking mode.

Yeah, at the time of their reunification we all thought the WGermans would take years to westernize the EGermans. Instead they went directly to adopting EGermany in western suits. No struggle or back and forth. Just straight up East Germany in NATO disguise. I wonder how much of NATO secrets have been delivered to Russia over the years.
