Another possibility is that Putin has decided to remove Prigozhin from power since he is openly challenging the Kremlin agenda. In fact, one could say he is presenting a challenge to Putin by elevating himself through Wagner to the same level as the MoD. He is no longer in the fight either, but looking for domestic gains. Maybe I am naive but Putin vs Russian army does not make sense to me. Putin is still the head of the state and the military so I do not think Shoigu could make any demands regarding PMCs without Putin's approval. Prigozhin, however, could defy him since Wagner follows his orders. |
