Hard to say. There are a lot of people my age that aren't phased at all by his nuclear threat.  We lived through that whole thing for most of our lives.

Not to mention that this has shown to the whole world how inept the Russian military is, even if the prevail in the end. They still lose on the world stage. Even China is probably laughing. They look like the Three Stooges with nukes.
Im not worried one bit about their nukes.
They have not been able to keep their rolling stock at 80% fully functional, due to maintenance issues and that stuff is cheap to maintain compared to an entire ICBM program.

How poorly maintained are their ICBM's and those trained to launch them???

Bad enough there was a report out that the U.S. was confident we could defeat them in a nuclear exchange.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/24/limited-nuclear-war-game-us-russia

The US conducted a military exercise last week which simulated a “limited” nuclear exchange with Russia, a senior Pentagon official has confirmed.

The war game is notable because of the defence department’s highly unusual decision to brief journalists about the details and because it embodied the controversial notion that it might be possible to fight, and win, a battle with nuclear weapons, without the exchange leading to an all-out world-ending conflict.

The exercise comes just weeks after the US deployed a new low-yield submarine-launched warhead commissioned by Donald Trump, as a counter to Russian tactical weapons and intended to deter their use.

According to a transcript of a background briefing by senior Pentagon officials, the defence secretary, Mark Esper, took part in what was described as a “mini-exercise” at US Strategic Command in Nebraska. Esper played himself in the simulated crisis, in which Russia launched an attack on a US target in Europe.

“The scenario included a European contingency where you are conducting a war with Russia, and Russia decides to use a low-yield limited nuclear weapon against a site on Nato territory,” a senior official said. “And then you go through the conversation that you would have with the secretary of defense and then with the president, ultimately, to decide how to respond.”

The official said that “in the course of [the] exercise, we simulated responding with a nuclear weapon”, but described it as a “limited response”.

The limited response could suggest the use of a small number of nuclear weapons, or an existing low-yield weapon, or the new W76-2 low-yield submarine-launched missile which was deployed in the Atlantic for the first time at the end of last year. The deployment only became public at the end of January.

At the same time as describing last week’s war game, Pentagon officials defended the fielding of the W76-2.

“It’s a very reasonable response to what we saw was a Russian nuclear doctrine and nuclear capability that suggested to us that they might use nuclear weapons in a limited way,” a senior official said.

The briefing was first reported by National Defense, a trade magazine of the National Defense Industrial Association.

Hans Kristensen, the director of the nuclear information project at the Federation of American Scientists, pointed out that it was extremely rare for the Pentagon to give such detailed briefings about nuclear exercises and suggested it could have been a marketing exercise for the new weapons being added to the US arsenal.

Is that what WOPR predicted?

LOL,

.

The answer to your question is yes, GD knows more. Not necessarily because of the quality of the intel each group receives, more because of the ability of the senate to understand and make logical  decisions based on what is good for US security. The “Intelligence “ part throws everyone off.

Might as well. Escalation at this point appears to be Putins goal and the world can’t keep backing down. Eventually you have to make a stand.

Boy did you get suckered? Putin and his global army of enablers don't have to work hard to sell BS to most Americans.

Why not do some homework. If Putin says it don't trust it. If his enablers say it, does that make it true?

Ask yourself why would a nation full of supposed Nazis elect a Jew as their leader? Hitler would be rolling in his grave no matter what the excuse. To the Communists/Socialists like Putin, everyone who does not agree with them is viewed as a Nazi. Domestically, just look to Antifa for proof. You are either one of them or you are a Fascist. Due to a lack of intellect, they have to keep the rhetoric simple.

Maybe we should ask the intended targets of those "Nazis" if it's true.

US intelligence is a shadow of what it was at the end of the Cold War. It’s pathetic how badly we’ve dropped the ball with basic spycraft.

I don't disagree with you, but we in the West (as is in Conservative politics) have a tendency to play by Gentleman's Rules hoping the other side will do the same. This dogged determination to stay the course is foolish, but we'll continue to do so for the surprised Pikachu face we make at the end.

He has access to the highest levels of intelligence on a situation like this that our government can obtain.

And intentional leaks from someone like Rubio can have strategic value. When he (intentionally) lets it slip that we know what they are doing before they do it they have to question how we know it. Feeding reasons to be paranoid to the naturally paranoid Russians can cause then to waste resources.

At some we just have to call their bluff.

Calling their bluff is a viable strategy that is going to have to be implemented at some point.  I'm saying do something they haven't already pointed their finger at and said you can't do that.  I don't even care what it is at this point.  Make Putin react to something you have done that he has not called out. It isn't calling his bluff if he hasn't bluffed it.  As I said earlier,  we have decimated our own ability to think outside the box, or even on the edges of it.  We need to do something they are not expecting, have not specifically called out, etc.  This will make Putin have to react. That reaction will say a lot about their current state of mind.  He isn't going to launch nukes over something relatively trivial like a no fly zone in Moldova or US warships near Cuba.  But his reaction to that will say a lot.  Once he has used his nuclear bluff for a scenario, you only have two options- call his bluff or back down.  By doing something outside of his established rules of engagement, you are now taking an action that is going to force him to play his hand - without the threat of nukes.

/media/mediaFiles/sharedAlbum/giphyggt-462.gif

Taken as a whole, GD is far more knowledgeable then many people want to admit. Sure you have to weed out the tards but do that and it's incredibly diverse in it's knowledge base. Most politicians are idiots outside of actually getting elected. Do you really think ANY politician knows jack and shit about electric vehicles, charging, utility base load, and actual real world use?

there's the intelligence collection, and then interpreting it, "what does it mean", and then making conclusions, to take action.  the US has a shitty track record of using the intel to come to good decision making.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, this isn't about the politics of who owns what land. Putin has all but admitted his goal is genocide.  This isn't strictly a regime change or a land grab for resources.  If it was that alone, our current strategy would be okay. Shitty deal for Ukraine, but they had opportunities to prepare for this for years.  But due to what Putin has said and the current shelling of citizens, are you willing to watch 44 million people be murdered? I draw the line for some sort of intervention at likely genocide of millions.
