At about the 8 minute mark in the 4th I almost called it quits. Figured the Falcons would Falcon and I could have used the sleep, but I figured it was a good enough game to keep watching.

Big charts:

The Saints are playing like the best team in the NFL, the Panthers are the worst, the Chargers have the best defense, and the Rams might be missing Aaron Donald. Maybe. lol

Derek Carr and Calamari are the best QBs so far with Allen and Mayfield joining them with video game efficiency stats.

Sam Darnold continues to look weirdly good.

Justin Fields is in an interesting spot. PFF thinks he's playing better than his stats indicate.

Mahomes, Dak, and Goff are off to a brutal start to the season.

Bryce Young at 9.1 is hilariously bad.

Richardson's combination of catastrophic plays and mind blowing plays apparently averages out to good.

National sports accounts on Twitter talk about Kirk looking cooked, but he's in his usual territory here.

From the prospective of “a fan watching your team play a game in September,” which is worse:

#1. A game where you know your team is going to lose at halftime.

#2. A game where your team has a 99%+ win probability, but they blow it at the end.

Personally, I think #2 is worse.  At least with #1 you slowly realize your team is going to lose and you can even watch something else in the 2nd half if so inclined.  #1 is just straight up gut-wrenching.

The Chiefs are a back to back Super Bowl Championship team that has been underwhelming to watch in the regular season the last few years, and they're 2-0 having played against two teams expected to be top-5 in the AFC.

The Saints are a team that haven't made the playoffs since Drew Brees retired in 2020, and they've blown out the worst team in the NFL and a Cowboys team people are skeptical about.

Beat the Ravens next week, and people will be asking if the Saints are that good or if the Ravens are that bad.

Beat the Lions and the 9ers next month, and people will really be talking.

But after two weeks? It makes sense.

Thinking too far ahead, we have Eagles up this Sunday. Wonder how they will do with the eagles on an upset loss on a short week.

I was apparently looking at the wrong schedule (Dallas).

Eagles, Falcons, Chiefs, and Bucs? The Saints can prove a LOT in that stretch.

Via Forbes: Aaron Rodgers voted NFL's 'Most Annoying Player'

Action Network recently polled more than 3,000 football fans and asked a handful of questions, including who is the league's 'Most Annoying Player?'

Rodgers, now with the New York Jets, was the runaway winner garnering 27% of the vote. Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce was second with 17% and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham was third at 10%.

Rodgers was named 'Most Annoying' by 24 of the NFL's 32 fan bases, including Green Bay's. Kelce was named 'Most Annoying' by the other eight fan bases.

The Falcons play the Chiefs, Bucs, and the Saints in the next few games too. Should be a good indicator of how the NFC south is shaping up.

Tuesday morning mini-stat post.
  • Bengals Chiefs game was CBS' best September game since 1998. 27.9M total viewers.
  • With their loss this weekend, the Panthers have surpassed the NY Jets as the worst franchise in the NFL since David Tepper purchased the team (31-70).
  • Brissett has the 2nd slowest time to throw on all drop backs, 3rd slowest on all passing attempts. He has faced just 4 pressures in less than 2.5 seconds but 23 pressures in when over 2.5 seconds.
  • Saquon Barkley leads all RB's in drops since 2021.
  • The Falcons had just a 0.7% chance of winning with 1:56 left in the 4th quarter, according to the NGS win probability model. The comeback is the 7th-most improbable win in the NGS era (since 2016).
  • When blitzing, the Eagles held cousins to 40% and 3.4 YPA. They only blitzed him once on the final drive after ATL already reached the PHI 7.
  • The only NFC East team to win this week didn't score a singled touchdown.

For me, #1 is worse. That tells me the team didn't show up if they aren't at least competitive.

Losing after blowing a lead, sometimes shit happens. If they had a lead, they were competitive. And that type of game is more entertaining IMO.

Aaron Schatz posted the current DVOA numbers and wrote about the Saints, Panthers, Seahawks, and Chiefs: https://ftnfantasy.com/nfl/dvoa-week-2-more-new-orleans-magic

He notes that adjustments for strength of opponent haven't been established yet, so numbers are pretty crazy.

Teams 1-5 are the Saints, Seahawks, Chargers, Vikings, and Texans, 14-16 are the Cowboys, 9ers, and Bengals, and the Chiefs are at #18.

That's certainly part of it, but it's far from the whole story.

Turning his Packers vs Jets decision into a months long soap opera, the darkness retreat, the hallucinogens, and attention whoring on PatMac's and Rogan's shows don't help, either.

The vast majority of it comes down to who the guests are.

If it’s someone who hasn’t played or coached in the NFL, I don’t even bother.

I also will pretty much never watch it for a game in which I really care about the outcome and/or is close very late.  They can make a boring game more interesting, but they also sometimes get sidetracked while the game plays in the background.

In 7 of Lamar Jackson's last 10 losses, he had the lead and possession in the last 10 minutes of the game.

The 3 exceptions are 2x vs the Chiefs and 1x vs the Bills.

Which means the only way that Lamar and the Ravens have lost is by either:
A: Facing elite quarterbacks on winning teams (Chiefs and Bills)
B: Choking a lead away

Not really?

Pressure isn't a good thing for QB play, but there are QBs that vapor lock and get smashed, there are QBs that immediately tuck and run, there are QBs take that last step available in the pocket and either hit the best target they see or throw the ball away, and then there are QBs that scramble around outside the pocket and extend plays before throwing the ball.

These are different outcomes that different QBs execute at a different levels.

Yeah. I don't care about that...

"I can't give you all the ingredients to the hot dog. You might not like it."

In reference to stuff happening in their locker-room/team dynamics... What the fuck does this even mean?

You mean like the 2 bengals rushers being held on that last play? Or the ticky tack illegal use of hands on Muholmes 3rd interception? Or like Hendrickson getting choke-held 5 rushes in a row?

Hell yeah, that was all missed.

Personally, the Bengals should have stopped KC on 4th and 16...they shouldn't have had Anthony, a rookie 7th round CB on the field, either, in that situation. Most Bengals fans are pointing to that and rightly sucking it up.

I thought it wasn't a conspiracy?

In reference to stuff happening in their locker-room/team dynamics... What the fuck does this even mean?

Edit: Made me think of the old bartender in Boondock Saints that always fucks up his analogies. "Why don't you make like a tree, and get the fuck out of here?"

As a lifelong Steelers fan I can tell you it's pointless to read into Tomlin's sayings. It's random cliches mixed with a little Yogi Berra

All QBs play worse when pressured. But not all QBs have the same outcome when pressured.

The first thing to note here is the scale. The average QB put up just over .2 EPA/play when not pressured and almost -.4 EPA when pressured.

The only QB that didn't have a negative EPA value when pressured last season was Jordan Love, but he was barely above 0.

Brock Purdy is INSANE when not pressured, but merely above average when pressured.

Jimmy G was nearly MVP level when not pressured, but a colossal train wreck when pressured.

A less extreme but noteworthy example is Tua. His production was great when not pressured, but poverty tier when pressured.
