Steelers new o-line pick had a acl injury and a lisfranc injury that has left him a bit stiff in that foot.

Presumably, they didn't have Worthy or Legette rated clearly ahead of guys who are still there. I've heard they like Coleman and McConkey, now Beane's conscience is clear that he won't be taking a 2nd rounder in the first :) If they took their guy at 28, kc still gets Worthy and Carolina still gets Legette. Trading down has always been a solid possibility at 28 with this years wr depth. They may very well trade down again. Trading up for the big 3 would have required being raped this year and next. Plus I think they now get to pick Mr Irrelevant. Brock Purdy II to back up Josh! |

The Falcons drafting Penix at #8 when they could have chosen some other position to improve is pure Atlanta Falconry. They deserve to lose.

View Quote Penix would be a 29 year old rookie by that point. They'd get 3-4 years from him before having to draft his successor. I get the thinking, but the timing and Penix's age aren't ideal. This is really just an over-correction from the botched Matt Ryan transition that AB forced with his pursuit of Watson. Ryan should have played out the last two seasons in ATL with Ridder as his backup. Ridder may have been successful learning from Ryan for 2 years instead of Mariotta for 3/4 of a season. |

No quarterback and they just drafted Michael Mayer with the 35th overall pick last season. They either needed to be more aggressive about moving up to go after McCarthy or stick with a solid need for them and take one of the MANY offensive lineman options still on the board at that time. Broncos were desperate and did desperate things. I mentioned previously I thought Zach Wilson was good for them because it took some stress off so they wouldn't do something crazy in the draft... Well Bo Nix at 12 is something crazy. I thought the Vikings came out amazing. Only had to move up 1 spot for McCarthy to ensure they didn't get jumped by the Broncos/Raiders. Then going back up in the 1st and taking the Jags spot to get Dallas Turner at a great spot. Lions jumping right in front of the Packers to take the best man still on the board with Terrion Arnold was great for them. Got a really good player in a good spot while screwing the Packers out of what would likely have been there pick next. Then instead of going with that strong need in the secondary the Packers took a Guard in a questionable position. Not only that, but if the mean to keep him at Guard, then taking Graham Barton, who went next to the Bucs, would have been a better decision. The Chiefs did what many people expected them to do. Make a very small leap up to take one of the exact WRs people expected them to. They got their value out of it. Then it was quickly followed up by the 49ers and the Panthers going deep for WRs that shouldn't have gone in the 1st round. Likely going to waste the 5th year options there. And the 49ers, taking Ricky Pearsall? Might as well kiss

Imagine how he feels right after he has been paraded around town and celebrated as a savior for the Falcons to hear his replacement is already on the books. He still gets paid but this trade may impact his mental game. |

Cousins hasn't played one down with the Falcons yet. When it comes to who they pick in the draft, they don't owe him anything. He's getting paid $190 million to be the starting QB for the next two years; he wasn't hired for his input in the draft. |

View Quote Cousins probably considered a variety of factors before taking the job in Atlanta. Pay, roster construction, coaching, competition in division/conference... all kinds of stuff. By most accounts, Cousins still wants an opportunity to compete. He didn't want to be a bridge QB, and he probably wouldn't have taken the job if that was the plan. And, like Love in GB, there will now be questions about Atlanta's roster could have looked like if they didn't jump on a developmental QB. I'm not going to cry for a dude making $100M to be a bridge QB, but I can see how he'd be unhappy about it. |

Via Sports Illustrated, the Falcon Report: Michael Penix Brings Atlanta Falcons Closer to Building 'Sustained Winner'
"We're thinking more long-term with this," Fontenot said. "Still very, very excited about Kirk that has not changed. This is a pick thinking about the future." Fontenot views quarterback as the most important position in football. When factoring in Penix's intangibles, physical tools and proven winning abilities, the opportunity proved too good to bypass. "When you have a lot of belief in a player, you can't pass that up," Fontenot said. "If we weren't staring at Penix, we weren't going to reach and force something. We have a lot of belief in the player and we know he can be a future franchise player." The Falcons intend on winning with Cousins - and, consequently, won't have the chance to select a long-term solution in future drafts. Armed with belief that Penix can take over the reins after Cousins, the Falcons pulled the trigger with their eyes fixated multiple years down the line. "When you get Kirk Cousins, you talk about short-term winning, winning right now, which we know we're going to be in position to do," Morris said. "We won't have the ability to be picking this high again with the guy we got, and these guys go off the board pretty quickly." "We're going to build a sustained winner," Fontenot said, "and we're going to win for a long time." |
