This is probably one of the more impressive spacex events for me. The amount of safety and autonomy needed to send these people up and also to be far above a normal orbit for dragon is really impressive. I and I think many of us focus a lot on the boosters and starship but not on dragon as much. Truly demonstrates a robust capsule and company.
It also really shows up branson and bezos with their little trips. |

I'm sure the civilian crew will have entire albums of photos from 600 miles up to share, though |

As for autonomy almost no spaceships are really piloted outside some docking maneuvers, the x15 and virgins ship. |

If they're like every other astronaut in history, what they really want to do is take a giant dump and get a shower.
But they're putting on a good show, like every other astronaut in history. |

A complete tour de force for space x |

There was some debate here on whether we would hear a sonic boom from the crew dragon or not.
I sat outside and caught it, Mrs heard it inside. Not as loud as a RTB booster but still enough that it could be felt, as well as heard. Some are saying they heard a double boom, we heard a single. Still impressed because there was a thunderhead almost on top of us, it probably muffled sound wave considerably. Not very often does a crew dragon or cargo dragon pass over a land mass low enough for locals to hear it. I'm happy this one did. |

View Quote No, it's because when flying for the government SpaceX uses NASA's TDRS satellite network, allowing uninterrupted space to ground communications. Even during reentry the spacecraft can transmit "backwards" out into space to the TDRS constellation where the signals are relayed back to mission control. During this mission SpaceX has apparently had to communicate from the spacecraft directly to ground stations, which is why they've had limited comm windows, along with reentry blackouts - just like 60's era NASA spacecraft. -bob |
