One of them seemed to stick to the engine right above the bell. I kept waiting for it to fall off but it just sat there lol.

Nothing to blow it away and only acceleration keeping it in place.

Cool fact mentioned toward the end of the webcast:  last year SpaceX completed 31 missions in total.  Today's mission was the 31st of this year and it's only July.

Do the legs always absorb the landing shock like that?

The payload fairing looked different.  All gray.  Is it a new style fairing?

The legs bounce / bend a fair bit.

Think they said that was the third flight for that fairing.

Yes the legs are pseudo shock absorbers but they are not sprung, once they collapse the only way they extend is when weight is taken off of them and gravity takes over.
I think you are right about the payload fairings being a new design, they have a more angular design at the taper near the bottom and the sheet metal cap on the nose is also new. I think this is the 3rd from here with them, and a couple more from Vandy.
I've been trying to get info on them but not getting any answers.

Off to look up Roman Space Telescope.

I remember there was a lot of talk here about sending Webb up on a Falcon Heavy. But the faring was too small and the contract to send up Webb on an Ariane had been in place for a long time.

She said the vehicle and payload were healthy - I'm wondering if it was simply a WX scrub.

Could "Vehicle and payload healthy" just mean "not blown up"?

Also, I don't think LD would have called go for launch with an unresolved WX issue.

Interested to know what the reason is!

What is WX?
Link Posted: 7/21/2022 3:18:21 PM EDT
[Last Edit: AmericanPeople] [#25]
Regardless of the reason, delaying a launch to prevent a possible catastrophic failure is always good.

Perhaps it was a minor issue that could have been checked and if safe reset everything and launch.   I  believe that the Starlink launches are for a set time.....launch window is instantaneous.  Thus they have no time to check and regroup other than try the next day.

WX is weather.  Minutes before launch time they said the weather condition was not a factor.

I caught a quick glimpse of that but it was so short I was not sure that it happened.

Deployment of 53 satellites confirmed.

I must have been dozing off.  From the launch video it started at T+51 seconds (may have been sooner but not shown) and lasted at varying levels for about ten seconds.

According to the telemetry it did seem to be coming in fast.
But any good landing is a good landing.
