They're still saying I'm due for regular service mid-2022.

If I order the RV package now, then 3 months from now I can get regular service, I gotta pay another $600 for equipment?

But then, if the service is the same, why would I want to switch?  Aside from it looks like RV service is a little more expensive, $135/mo.

This place always cost me money and gets me added to lists.

Looks like Mid 2023 until I get coverage. I was really hoping the Bahamas would have coverage.

If you intend on doing the portability option, just don’t permanently mount the dish on your roof, experience talking.

Make it easy to get to & to pull down, and get an extra cable for the RV when your order your dish.  When you want to take it in the RV, grab the dish & router and take off.   The $25 portability fee is only charged for the months you use it, so not a bad deal.

Well, I don't need the portability, at least for the foreseeable future.

I wonder if I can order, and then cancel the portability?

I’m just west of Little Rock but out in the country. No cable or DSL here. I’ve been pulling all my internet off cellular for years. I have to have a yagi and booster to make that work and even then service can be spotty.

OK, so I figured out my problem. I had Dishy McDishFace shipped to my home address, and not the service address. So once I turned on portability - instant connection. ~120mbit. Not great, not bad…..

This will be a fun toy to bring along on our group shoots in the desert.

From the looks of it, for an extra $25 per month.

Wait for the normal home-based version.  $25 per month extra here.  $25 per month extra there and soon you are at an extra $300 per year for no obvious benefit to you.

Hmm…. I haven’t seen the RV version info, just the portability option to the home unit, I assume it’s the same equipment.  Portability on the home unit can be set up and cancelled at any time, it’s a monthly service, great for the RV.   The Dish is the only thing I need to figure out as I don’t want to climb onto my roof when we head out for a week.   I think I’ll need to buy a 2nd dish.

Is the RV dish different? Or just behind the scenes priority of service + portability?

The extra $25 is the portability fee that you would also have to pay for your home service if you wanted to take it with you to another location for a period of time. When you bring it back home you can pause the fee until you want to take the unit somewhere else again.

I received the same email. I have the same question about the equipment. Plus, I read that you have to have home service for the RV roaming service to work. I'm going to look into ordering the home service to an available address, such as my SIL in Northern Virginia and bringing it back here to use. Hopefully that would work even though the map shows no service available in this area.

For those that have access to decent internet and don't understand why Starlink is so desired and people are so willing to pay for it, this is what people in the country deal with, have a two year contract to get and at least a 600ms ping, usually higher, sometimes a lot higher -

Try streaming video, do video conferencing or school work on that. This is Viasat but I don't think Hughsnet is any better.

Ordered two weeks ago, said my area wasn’t scheduled for additional availability until 2023. Got the notification on Monday that my equipment was ready. Should have it next week or so. Going to pay for the RV option and play with it in some remote areas that may or may not be covered.

I have everything installed and its inconsistent and slow, but sometimes its fast but not as fast as I have seen others (on the internet, not in person in my area).

I have the RV / roaming charge on my account, so I have a feeling my area is congested and that’s the way its gonna be until more satellites are available.  Of course, there is always are chance I have messed things up.

There are NO obstructions and everything works, so I think I did everything correctly.  I dont know if there are other settings I could optimize.

I have it hooked up to my router via the add on ethernet adapter.  Currently I have the WiFi on the Starlink router turned off.  However, is there ANY real reason to do so?  Cant I leave it broadcasting and hook it up to my router via the ethernet adapter?

I was expected to get service 2023 but checked and it was already available. Placed the order and received the equipment yesterday. Set it up today and real happy about the results.  No more 1-5mb/s download for $80/mo. Still need to properly anchor the dish to the side of the house and rout the cables but initial tests are good

SpaceX to begin launching new ‘shell’ of Starlink satellites in July

"SpaceX could begin launching the fourth of five orbital ‘shells’ of its first Starlink constellation as early as July, according to a report from a reliable source of SpaceX information.

The initial report tweeted on May 20th by reporter Alejandro Alcantarilla claimed that SpaceX was preparing to start launching “Group 3” of its first 4408-satellite Starlink constellation as early as July 2022. Less than a week later, those claims were confirmed when SpaceX applied for communications permits known as “special temporary authority” licenses or STAs for a launch known as “Starlink Group 3-1” no earlier than late June.

Regardless, Group 3 appears to be next and will mark the start of operational polar Starlink satellite launches. Also outfitted with laser links, those polar-orbiting spacecraft will be useful for connecting Starlink internet users at the extreme ends of the Earth. In the context of the optical network SpaceX is building in orbit, they may be even more useful for their routing capabilities, which could make it easier for aircraft or ships far from any nearby ground station to remain connected to the network almost anywhere on Earth."

no one really  knows  ..

right now Starlink support says you can  not "at this time" change product types (  from home to  RV and RV to home )
they also say they are looking into this option in the future.
so ..   no one knows.

Home +  portability = 135   no option to pause billing .   your data has priority  at the home address    and depriority data   outside your home address  no option to pause billing
RV =  135 with an option to pause the billing - data will always be deprioritized wince you have no home address.

de priority kicks in when the network is congested.

Ive had the home plus portability since may 6th.   used in waitlist  area .
Ive had the RV plan 5 days  , also used in waitlist  area.  (  DFW area )

both perform outstandingly.

since the "home" service i have is 400 miles away  my home serive with portabilty is deprioritized while im in dallas
the RV plan as i understand it is deprioritized everywhere.

the words  "deprioritized data"  scares alot  of people..

im not seeing a difference  and i have both,

now i understand that  is because my area is not currently  " congested " so i see no drop in performance

Got my RV Starlink up on a pole to get it past the damn trees .

Service is pretty spotty as in it drops quite often and the ping is pretty bad sometimes.  Still better than my other option of $100 5mbps DSL which drops all the time too due to noise on the line.

Hopefully with the upcoming satellite launches service will improve in this area.

Test successful. First test on the ground had an obstruction every minute or so. Too many damn pine trees.

Moved Dishy to the roof, and wham - 220mbps.
