I really like that watch and strap combo.  How are you liking the strap?

I just saw this post in the WOTD thread, so had to google Cheapest NATO straps.

Not hard to find, and the best price I've ever seen on MN style straps.

https://www.cheapestnatostraps.com/collections/paratrooper-straps

I wish I had seen them before my last order from Erika, since I ended up modifying the strap I bought for a lot more to look like the ones from Cheapest NATO.

@Sonoran_Tj - how long did shipping take? I just ordered three.

Those straps are just a single piece, similar to what I did with this old NDC strap:

It's a good way to do it, and avoids infringing on Erika's patent. If they made the strap about 13" long, you could double wrap it and wear the watch head against your wrist like I've done with this one:

CNS ships within a day or two but you are at the mercy of customs for overall shipping time.  I've ordered from them three times and it averages to about 12 days.  My most recent order was received 9 days after I got a shipping notice.

I've worn that strap all day and while I want to love it, I do have some gripes.  First off is it isn't a loop design like Erika's MN strap; it is a single pass piece of elastic.  This makes it easier to put on, but the loose tail is a bit in the way when putting on the watch.  My other issue is the tri-glide slowly slipped throughout the day making the band loosen up.

I think I have a solution to these problems.  If I use a second tri-glide I can pass the tail of the strap back through it, this should both keep it out of the way and help lock down the length of the strap to keep it from loosening.  Unfortunately I only ordered one of these straps so I don't have a second tri-glide around to try this.  I just ordered a second paratrooper strap and will be trying it in a few weeks.

The CNS strap measures just under 11".  Talk me through how you double wrap it though, I want to see if that works.

There's several ways to skin that cat, but this is the most simple:

Here's another option:

I use a tri-glide buckle I found a while back. They are perfect for this material. They provide enough friction to not slide, and are big enough to accept the hook.

Alright I just gave that a shot with the CNS strap.  It works pretty well and feels way more secure than the way they recommend using the strap.

I have a 6.25" wrists and only have about an inch of tail, so this wouldn't work if your wrist was much more than 6.75".

I'm 6.5" so I may have to give one of those straps a try. I've about sworn off of nylon straps after discovering the MN parachute webbing a while back. I even learned to saddle-stitch so I can modify them. Looks like the cheapestnato straps have about an extra 1" of material that they are wasting at the buckle. I'd remove that and just stitch about 1/4".

I modified the last strap I bought from Erika (the one I bitched about with the Chicago screw ) to look like that, then added a keeper from an old 20mm NATO and use it to keep the buckle in place. I had to bend the tabs in back a little to keep it from slipping, so it's not easily removable, but I don't swap straps often.

Those buckles I linked to above don't slip. They are like $0.30/ea. Must be the curvature of the things that grab the strap just right. I've tried the squared ones and they slide every time.

I emailed Sofie Björklund of cheapestnatostraps yesterday and she responded this morning. She has been overwhelmed by the response that her Paratrooper straps have gotten and is looking for more options. Sounds like she'll make them like Erika's as well, but just can't advertise that. She said she'll likely start making them a little longer so they can be worn with the double-wrap.

They are all regurgitating the same straps from the same manufacturer. I got sent samples 2 months ago. They all went in the garbage. I think strapcode and maybe blushark is doing them also.

JaysandKays metal 20mm adapters and my trusty Marathon strap. So comfy. I've owned G-Shocks off and on since I was an 18 y/o PVT at Ft. Sill, and the only thing I've had go bad with them is the straps. I also hate that they don't sit face-up on the bed stand at night since the resin band won't lay flat. I always manage to eat them up with deet at some point too, so it's nice to have the option of using all my 20mm straps on this. They make it for 22mm as well, and have some polymer adapters that take up to 24mm, but they are pretty gumpy-looking. These metal adapters are the ticket. They come with 14mm and 20mm spring bars, but I'm going to stick some shoulder-less 20mm Marathon bars on the adapters so they'll be semi-permanent.

Also, the only zulu color you don't have a photo of is the sand.

Need to bump this post back to Page 1.

Just got a kangaroo leather strap from Toxicnatos.com. I've never had a leather NATO before, but I can't imagine finding anything better than this. The leather is incredibly tough and only 1.2mm thick. After I cut off the offending flappy bit, it sits really low on the wrist. Not sure how waterproof it is, but I'm thinking some neutral Kiwi or Snow Seal would fix that. @toxicavenger70

There’s a few people carrying these chevron bands, I thought this might be something I’d like, so I ordered one. I put it with a regular nato to highlight the difference. This one is from Crown & Buckle.

To be honest, it’s not my thing. The buckle is hard to adjust, the material is too thin for my liking, they are much shorter and since it’s a single strap, I nearly dropped my watch twice when I took it off. The heavy diver just slides right off.

It would probably work better with a lighter field watch, but it just wasn’t what I was expecting.

Thanks.  A friend of mine showed me this watch strap and said they were as good or better than their custom $100.00 band. So I ordered one, and am very happy with it to say the least. It came from ebay seller, thingsbyangele.  Cost was $33.95.  It is made out of American Horween leather and made in the USA.  I will purchase from them again.

Glad this thread got some interest again. Just got in a few more ToxicNatos (Ute whatever) from Hodinkee. I remember back when it was Toxic I got a Bond from them, but now I only see 4-5 solid colors. Does anyone know if they do small runs of other patterns or are we just down to solid colors now that they're on the new site? I'd love to get an original "Bond" style nato and/or a red/black bond from them. Best NATOs I've found by far.
