I'm digging the thompson stock on it ,and I need some lancaster mags for my M11 . from the small bit of knowledge i've read in "the machine gun dealers bible" the above is pretty much right on, and i can add: *federally speaking there is no class III liscence(this is a common misconception), you apply for and are granted or denied a federal tax stamp for each weapon. *this stamp is carries a one time $200 transfer fee / tax stamp and varying degrees of legal tape to cut and hoops to jump through(depending if your set up privately or as an entity such as an LLC). *individual states(unfortunatelly) have the right to ban possetion(negating the possibility of ownership) of impose additional restristons on otherwise legally obtainable class III / title II weaons. * class III or title II weapons include: full auto/burst fire weapons, short barreled shotguns(SBSs), short barreled rifles(SBRs), suppressors(silencers), destructive devices(DDs), and any other weaposn(AOWs[this list gets a nit long, you do the homework here]). *some AOWs only require a $5 transfer fee / taxstamp. *some states HAVE imposed screwy laws. in WA you can own a suppressor but are not legally allowed to fire a weapon equipped with one. *all full autos that are legally transferrable to civilians(meaning anyone other than a law enforcement agancy or the military, not individual officers or soldiers, airmen, seamen etc.) were manufacturedand registered prior to May 19, 1986. *if you own a registered FA it matters not what length the barrel is. *adding a forward pistol or vertical grip or a buttstock to a handgun will require federal registration(there are certain examples that have been grandfathered in for exception) *all other full auto or burst fire weapons manufactured after may 19 1986 are only obtainable as a dealer post sample *the shotgun in the above pic appears to be a serbu shorty, fairly easily and legally obtainable *all or none of this may or may not apply in MI, again some states have screwy bullshit laws(ca, ny, nj, hi, il, just for example) and i know not the laws from every state. hell title II weaposn are defiantelly good to go here in VA but ole doug wilder had a hard on for the "street sweepr" and it is expressly banned from transfer/importation(though preexisting ones are grandfathered) iirc by VA statecommuniston wealth law. *there is not actully a class III dealers liscence, a dealer must first obtain a standard FFL then apply for an SOT(special occupantional tax) number there's a lot of good info and a quick and simple run down of regulations and histor HERE (yes it's a wiki page, but everthng i briefly skimmed over seems to be right to my recolection). if you are interested in class III / title II(any weapons not generally covered by a standard form 4473) i suggest buying and reading "the machine gun dealers bible". *all info is presented as to the best of my recallection, and not as gospel fact. someone will be along shortly to correct anything i may be wrong about.
