I've searched every combination of words I can imagine and cant find an old post. I am interested in opening an online trading account. It would be nice if crypto were an option as I see many dont offer.
Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

This one looks good?

Interactive Brokers. Sounds like you can do anything with them including crypto but my main goal is to start trading stocks and see how I can do.

Don’t bother. Spend some time reading about the market.

Bottom line is that unless you are just looking for entertainment, you will likely do better buying a basket of broad market funds with low fees and leaving it alone.

By the time you pay for commissions, and taxes, you really have to have some combination of insider information (illegal) or luck to beat the market enough to come out ahead.

^ this.  I have both.

I usually use Vanguard's stock brokerage.  It's just okay.
- No premarket trading.  Aftermarket is only for an hour or two.
- Their mobile app sucks.  No options trading via mobile, for example.
- Buy/sell stocks and Vanguard funds for zero commission.  Options are $1/each to trade.
- Vanguard has very little research (analyst reports) available for stocks.

Vanguard has a nice selection of good funds and low costs.  Meh customer interface and features.  Good for buying/holding.
Interactive Brokers lets you play more easily across borders and a wide variety of exchanges, if that's your thing.
Schwab has good user tools, as does E-Trade.
If there's a focus on options, Ameritrade's thinkorswim is a great tool.

Any of those should be okay with a crypto fund or ETF.  For plain cryptocoins, I think that's a fast-changing situation and research is required.

So, as above posters stated, it depends on what you want to do/buy.  But I'd probably say Schwab.  Unless you want to play directly in foreign-traded equities rather than through the more limited selection available as ADRs on US exchanges.  In that case, I'd say IB.

Ameritrade

For those who say you can't do well, are talking out of their ass.

TD Ameritrade will cease to exist in about 16-24 months. They were bought by Charles Schwab. And the entire TD platform will be shut down as every TD client is switched to Schwab.

No crypto except the ETF’s like GBTC and ETHE.

Zero stock fees. Including penny stocks, which TD currently charges for.

I have been pleased with Fidelity. Brokerage and Roth’s.  I’ve been with them around 12 years.

TSP for old work $.
