![]() [i]A plane smuggling migrants crashed near Presidio, Texas, and police are looking for the pilot. PHOTO PROVIDED BY PRESIDIO COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE. An airplane carrying smuggled migrants crashed in the West Texas desert and the pilot — a Texas man — ran from the site, abandoning severely injured passengers, according to the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office. And he’s still at large. Carrying six passengers, the four-seat aircraft was under-fueled and overloaded, investigators said. Extra weight, plus low fuel, helped bring the plane down north of the Presidio Lely International Airport around 3:50 p.m. on Dec. 30. Presidio sits on the Texas-Mexico border near Big Bend National Park, about 60 miles south of Marfa. Police say Tobias Penner Peters was attempting to transport the individuals from Presidio to another location in the U.S., but he lost control of the plane. Many were injured on impact but Peters managed to flee the scene of the “smuggling attempt gone wrong.” ![]() Presidio first responders, U.S. Border Patrol agents, and the state Department of Transportation all descended on the scene, assisting PCSO deputies’ search and rescue efforts, the sheriff’s office said. While Peters escaped, he probably didn’t walk away unscathed, according to the sheriff’s office. He likely suffered serious head trauma and may have also lost one of his eyes. Peters is described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 185 pounds, with blue eyes and red hair, police said. He has properties in Seminole, Texas but sometimes travels to Ojinaga, Mexico, across the border from Presidio. The sheriff’s office has warrants out for his arrest on charges of felony human smuggling, evading arrest, and deadly conduct. Anyone with information on Peters whereabouts is encouraged to call the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office at 432-729-4848. https://www.star-telegram.com/news/nation-world/national/article257021217.html |

I guess only people on the terror watch list get the chartered air force C17s.

Do they send the illegals back, or just forward them to a local hospital and "forget about it."

"Peters is described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 185 pounds, with blue eyes"
That would be blue eye. |
|
LoL. Look at that face. And just think, he’s still more of a pilot than the three outright imposters who infest every aviation thread.

The .gov doesn't like when folks try to muscle in on their racket. I guess the illegals preferred to fly private instead of commercial on biden airlines.

I'm going to assume one could just wait for the vultures to circle in the distance and then collect him.

So he's wanted for the same thing the .gov is doing.......crazy world!

I want to know more about the six being smuggled. Seems like an expensive way to move six people considering how easy it is to just walk across the border. Probably not something your average day laborer looking for a better life could afford.

"How far do think this plane will take us?"
"All the way to the crash site." |

Cherokee 235 is a great plane with a big time useful load of 1300-1400lbs.
Assume each illegal weighs 160. Pilot is 185. Article says 6 pax, let's assume that includes the pilot. That's 985 lbs. Assume full main tanks only - 48 gallons of fuel at 6lbs per gallon - 1273lbs total gross weight. And that only gets lighter as you burn fuel. Now if that was six pax PLUS the pilot, you are in overweight territory. That would be about 1433lbs. They could download fuel but at a fuel burn of 14 GPH they might not have downloaded enough. So they were likely overweight. It doesn't take much being overweight to drag a Hershey bar Piper down in my experience. I've done high/hot in a PA28 140/160 and 590 lbs in the front seats....1" from the very front limit of the allowable envelope and right at the max groess the takeoff and climb performance was abysmal until I could get the climb trim out. The trim drag was enough to really hold us back at that loading. Looks like they should have been able to land it on that terrain too. ![]() |

If it's bad enough, they'll be released so the state eats the medical bill instead of DHS |

Well, that's great.
Now the ME terrorists have a working proof of concept that a light plane can cross into US airspace anytime completely undetected, as long as they don't crash... |
