8 out of 10 might be more appropriate.

But I'm on board!

Fingertips (especially) have a lot of nerve ending in there for touch, pressure, heat, cold, etc.

They will slowly grow back into the fingertip but it might feel 'different' for a few years.

Inch per year is a commonly quoted number, but it apparently varies a whole lot
across location, number of neurons involved, and a bunch of other things.

My doc said one inch per month, not year.

Good luck OP, I am 9 weeks out from this where I completely severed 5 tendons and the median nerve:

Friday Feb 13th, 1988 I cut the tip of my right index finger off in a sliding van door. It hurt. Took the tip to the ER where they couldn't get the remaining finger numb to sew it back on so we just did it live. It hurt. To this day it is crooked and doesn't have the feeling the rest of my fingers have but its all there.

I did the exact same thing.  Used a filet knife for the wrong job.

Ran my pinky and ring finger into the dado blade this past Saturday. Fortunately, its not as bad as it seems now, but I may or may not have a pinky fingernail in the future.
No pics on this computer.

When my old man was working construction, he cut his pinky off with a circular saw. They were able to reattach, but damn that (and what ya'll have done) would suck.

Not to rain on your parade but I've seen much worse .

BIL lost all 4 fingers on his left hand .  Work related using a power saw .

A woman that I knew lost a couple of fingers when the wind slammed a heavy metal door shut .  Her hand was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Count yourself lucky .

Here's some free advice, worth exactly what you paid for it:  don't do that shit again.

At least you didn't cut into the actual hand itself.

What's that wedding band made out of?  It looks similar to a carbide steel band my wife got me... and I'm scared to wear.

Yea, Tungsten Carbide... right?  I wore it for a little while, and then thought... "Oh shit, what if they need to cut it off to save my finger???"

Friend of mine with a similar issue and I were shooting...  He showed me his target, kept hitting the "too little trigger finger" area.

I removed the top quarter inch from my left index finger and could not find it thanks to the table saw I was using. The doctor closed it up and to this day it is the 1st finger to get cold and hurt like a mf'er

Sure does. Lost the tip of my right index finger between a bicycle chain and sprocket when I was 16. What I'll never forget was watching the little protruding piece of bone go flying when the doc clipped it off with a pair of dykes.

Same, when I was 14. Freaked me out when the Doc cauterized some of it after he sewed it into my palm.

I have that same ring (on your ring finger).  It was my Dad's.  I wear it once in a while.  Sorry about your left hand though, looks like it was painful!

Cut about 3/8" off my thumb a couple years ago by running it through the bandsaw. It was much more mangled than yours and has healed fine after they sewed it back on. I still have a dead spot in it though where I assume I cut the nerves, but I think it is slowly getting better.

I walked into the local Urgent Care where there was a little girl sitting there with her mom. The nurse at the front desk asked what I needed and when I told her I had cut part of my thumb off that little girl looked at her mom with a half amazed/half mortified look. Lol

Hope you're not a lefty. Would suck if it's your trigger finger.

I shoot Bullseye Pistol with a High Master (averages 97%) and he lost the tip, and feeling, on his trigger finger.  He is still an incredible shot.

FWIW: I've seen plenty of injuries like yours in the auto repair business and they rarely take when an ER doc sews it back together.  It may fill in over the years though.  Best of luck!

A year later I still cant feel anything and every once in a while I get the phantom feeling that my fingertip is still there. The nurse in the ER thought I was exaggerating when I told her i cut my fingertip off, technically it was split in half. She asked why my BP was so high, I told her ma'am my finger really hurts bad, look at it. When she did her response was we may not be able to fix that lol.
