I'm not a fan of British film but all things considered; Cast, musical score, filming locations, acting (some mighty damn fine acting) ect. this movie is a masterpiece. If you've never seen it you owe it to yourself to watch it, on BluRay. It also adheres closely to actual historical events.

Concur with OP.

That and Ben Hur with Moses playing the role of Ben Hur.  There's a scene where a Roman guard sees Ben Hur drinking and then saw the face Jesus.  Great silent acting.

Most Powerful Cinematic Movie Scene of all Time!

Easily.

Watched it about a week ago.

I still remember watching it during its 1962 release, at the Ute Theater on Pikes Peak Avenue in Colorado Springs.

They didn't have air conditioning at the Ute. Made the desert scenes hotter.

Peter O'Toole's first main role - nominated for an Academy Award.

That's was a pretty small crowd (in his day).

TE Lawrence was one strange dude. He later enlisted into the RAF under a fake name to work as a low rank mechanic and made very legitimate design contributions to aircrew rescue boats. He’d be at Schneider Trophy runs chatting with generals as equals and everyone had to pretend he wasn’t Lawrence of Arabia.

Ah, how I miss good movie making. Great music, terrific scripts, quality acting and great stories. In 50 years, will they be cherishing their memories of Batman or Hangover 3?

Fantastic movie.    I saw the restored 288 minute version of Lawrence of Arabia in one of only three U.S. curved screen "Super-Cinerama"  format theaters with seven-track directional surround-sound, not long before they tore it down.     The three curved screens were about 100 feet wide by 35 feet tall.   The panoramic shots were incredible.   There was a 10 minute intermission as well.

Note to self, watch it again.

Fantastic movie; one of the GOATs.  The cinematography and soundtrack are amazing and make it worth the watch even without the excellent acting and story.  That trek through the seemingly impassable desert was awesome.

Was talking the other day with my Dad’s neighbor who hasn’t seen this.  We're planning on watching my copy within the next two weeks.

Great movie.

TE Lawrence's book is a must read also.

TE Lawrence carried a 1911, an Enfield taken back from the Turks and a Lewis Gun in real life during WW1.

"Hero" by Michael Korda does a great job with further digging into Lawrence's exploits.

Recently came across a book by a former SF officer that analyzes Lawrence's tactics. My dad picked it up, looks pretty I interesting.

I watched it a couple years ago to see what the fuss was about. it was pretty dry. historically accurate things usually don't make for great Hollywood blockbusters. I can see why.

Completely agree. Outstanding movie, a masterpiece. However, some people would never be able to sit through it. Not enough Vin Diesel flying out of exploding cars while jive talking robots are turning into monster trucks for the Tide Pod eating crowed.

Thanks for that. I'll have to pick up a copy.

I see he also describes himself as a Conflict Archaeologist, I'll have to see if there are any papers out there that he's done. Should be some interesting reading.

Lawrence was a motorcyclist, and it ultimately cost him his life.

It's pronounced bruff.

Both films are F. A. Young Oscars for Cinematography (add Ryan's Daughter). You Only Live Twice the only 007 film photographed by his class of DoP
Spiegel produced 3 Best Pictures, Lean directed 2 of them, back when that meant something.
LOA wisely uses the great Claude Rains (Casablanca) at pivotal dialogue moments.
Jose Ferrer was asked what his best work was, he said he'd take his seven minutes in LOA.

Read a long time ago, perhaps apocryphal: David Lean was on the sand filming for a couple years. Sam Spiegel (The African Queen, On The Waterfront, Bridge On The River Kwai) faked a heart attack, was in a hospital room in Cairo to get Lean out of the desert. Rushing to his friends side, Spiegel told Lean "David, David, the filming can't go on forever."

"Why?"

LOA still holds the record for most dialogue by one character

Ben Kenobi returned to include his voice on a couple critical lost scenes in the slightly longer directors cut: "Orence is your man" (cut to train destruction)
The subject's life was more interesting than any film, but few films approach this one. We never quite know T.E. very well: Lean shows his reflection on Hawkins desk, in shadow in the tent, behind a dirty windshield at the end and other obscuring moments.
