Apparently, Richmond has an annual Easter Parade, on Monument Avenue, where unfortunately they took down all the (civil war) monuments (except for that one of Arthur Ashe beating of the chirruns trying to steal his library books, with a tennis racket) during the dark times following the Floyd shenanigans. And the weather sucked. And it’s not really a parade; it’s just folks drinking and strolling the (asphalt) cobbles that define the old streets in town. But one guy had monkeys!! If there was ever a candidate for some good old fashioned mid-rotation release, it's this one. Thinned 2 years ago. Not hard to get through today, but in 2-3 years those 15,000 sweetgum sprouts per acre are going to seriously piss off the next forester. 21 years old. Trees running 65-ish feet tall. I mean, it’s awesome, but I’m trying to understand the thought processes that led to “hot chick, red highlights, in a tub full of activated charcoal and rose petals” I like contrast and faces/eyes, and Nastassia like out of the norm unique-ish photos.. I was hoping to get the water a little darker/more viscous but wasn't gonna happen. At least not without risking messing up the tub. Also on the list is a milk bath shoot, assuming I can find an extremely dark skinned model. |

One of my passions in life is live music. Living people, playing actual instruments, on a stage, in front of other living people. Some of my earliest memories surround listening to Dad banging out some Beethoven, or Tchaikovsky, perhaps some Mozart, or (when he was feeling feisty) some Rachmaninoff on the baby grand. As I grew up, my tastes turned to rock'n'roll. I went to my first rock concert at 14 (ZZ Top opening for Grand Funk Railroad). Then I got into the Dead. And, as I discovered, they had a taper culture. "Bootlegs". So in the latter half of the 8th decade of the 20th Century, I said to myself "FredMan, you should really get into that culture". So I bought a Sony WM-D6C and got to know the guys running sound at my local haunts, and at shows, became polite and "hey may, can I patch in?". At Dead shows, looking around the pit (they specifically sold Taper Tickets, in a special section behind the soundboard, where as long as you were quiet, and had your shit together, pretty much anything goes), I noticed the cools kid were running Nakamichi CM-300 shotgun mics and Sony TC-D5M decks. At the time I had my first real job as a co-op student, and I had some money, so I dove right in. I hauled that rig all over the country. Maine. California. Florida, and every place in between. I wouldn't go to a show if there would be an issue taping. Fast forward to today. Now that I've survived the Big D, I find myself with some spare time. And all that music is on analog cassettes. Over a thousand hours. And a burning need to convert it to digital. So I've got my vintage 1998 Yamaha cassette deck and my old Onkyo amp set up, and I'm doing the needful. Today, we get Phish from North Charleston, 1995. Phish 1995-11-18 Master Tapes by FredMan, on Flickr Cassette>Digi Rig by FredMan, on FlickrThis only one of the boxes. And you know what? Those old Maxell magazine ads of finding a cassette in the moon dust, stomped on by Armstrong are spot on. Those sneaky Nips sure knew how to build an archival medium back in the day. For like $3. Well I picked up a film camera for a pretty good deal. I've never shot film in my life besides the old disposables so this will be fun. Nikon F3 that came with an old Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 AI lens which also works on my D850 so double bonus there! I'll post up some pics shortly (of the camera and eventually some film shots when I figure out developing and scanning) |
