Like a lot of folks, I have lost a lot of faith in our medical system. Alas, I turned 50 this year and at my annual physical yesterday, doc recommended these three shots. Honestly, since covid I don't really want them putting anything in my arm. I know that's somewhat irrational. Doc tried to talk me into at least getting the tetanus booster, but I declined. I also hate when they just bring in the needle and syringe and jab it in your arm. Do you really know what's in there? I didn't see them draw it from the source bottle and confirm what it is. I am otherwise healthy with no major issues. So, get the shots or not? |
| A couple of years ago I had several of those shots in a single setting. I wouldn't recommend it unless your schedule doesn't allow you to stagger the injections |

I had chickenpox as a kid so I got the shingles vax. Second shot sucked. Too many people around me getting shingles and telling me how bad it is. Would not have thought much about tetanus but added it when I got my shots for South America. Hadn’t thought much about pneumonia vax. How does that work? My only bout with pneumonia was bacterial. |

It's not like the nurse goes in the janitorial supply closet and fills the syringe with some sort of caustic cleaner. If she was that evil, she would just fill a very proper and medical looking vial first and then fill the syringe in front of you before stabbing it in your veins and watching it eat through your blood vessels and heart as you scream in agony. |

pneumonia used to be called the olds mans friend because it was the cause of death in many elderly people so with the vaccine a dumb way to die, tetanus yourget a mild scratch while working around the house get tetanus and you die also stupid. Shingles does not kill you but you wish it did very very very painful. also the new shingles vaccine seems to prevent dementia reduces it in about 35 percent of individuals . All of these are optional. You don't want them fine FAFO. While your at it don't change the oil in your car Insurance that is for saps |

A recent meta study looking at medical studies over the last 40 or so years has concluded that more than 50% of citations are unsupported. While you can't prove the citations are "fake", no one can actually find the studies or data cited. TLDR: It pays to cheat and hallucinate data and whole assed studies. There is a good argument to be made a lot of LLM/AI hallucination is because it's based on centuries of human errors and outright fraud. |

I'm more afraid of pneumonia than the flu, especially if I land in a hospital for some reason. |

| Doctors are like the courts, stay away or they'll wrap you up in their web. Physical? Cool, let me sit there while you try to sell me your products that I don't fucking need, or expensive tests so you can find something kinda wrong with me to sell me more of your products. As if the badgering commercials weren't bad enough. It's mostly a hustle. |

No reason to get the Tdap. The 10 year timeline was made up with no science behind it. The UK recommendations no adult boosters. The WHO recommendeds one adult booster. France recommends every 20 years. Australia has moved to adult boosters a 50 and 65. And a very good study out Oregon recommends changing it two two boosters in the US one at 30 and one at 60 |

OP - ask your medical professional what is in the shingles vaccine. Shingrix is made with cells from the ovaries of a Chinese hamster. I bet any medical professional you get to talk to would not know this and I doubt the pro vaxxers on this board know it. https://www.accegen.com/recent-posts/cho-cells-a-promising-host-for-vaccine-manufacturing/ Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells were initially isolated from the ovaries of Chinese hamsters in the 1950s and have since become a predominant platform for the production of therapeutic proteins. The first recombinant therapeutic protein generated using CHO cells was tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), which received approval for clinical application in 1987 [1]. Subsequently, CHO cells have been employed to manufacture a broad array of biologics. Notably, between 2018 and 2022, approximately 89% of therapeutic proteins derived from mammalian systems were produced using CHO cells, underscoring their status as the industry standard [2] FDA-Approved CHO-Derived Vaccines SHINGRIX (Zoster Vaccine Recombinant, Adjuvanted) SHINGRIX is manufactured using recombinant CHO cells cultured in serum-free medium to express glycoprotein E (gE) of the varicella-zoster virus. The purified antigen is formulated with an adjuvant system to enhance immunogenicity. |

Get shingles & tetanus. Pneumonia if you have lung issues or other significant medical problems. When I got shingles @ Walgreens, I demanded to watch them mix it & draw. I would refuse any shot where you didn't see them draw it from the vial. There were a few folks injected w/ the clot shot by the military when they went to get the flu shot. You are correct not to trust them - much of the medical community are useful idiots or fellow travelers. |

I read the label & it says Snickers on it, I read the label on the vial & it said Shingrix. The other one was something else they had to mix it with. |

We’re not talking about an object we can see, handle, and observe. You are taking the word of who exactly? How do you know what is in the vial? Who makes the ingredients? Were any of them made by China? Chinese-owned companies manufacture vaccine components and therapeutics for Western countries, but they do so primarily through a business model called contract manufacturing rather than selling their own branded vaccines.Instead of buying a finished Chinese vaccine (like Sinovac), Western pharmaceutical companies hire Chinese Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs) to formulate, cultivate, or package specific parts of their proprietary products. The industry operates through several specific mechanisms: The Global "WuXi" ConglomerateThe most prominent example is WuXi Biologics (and its sister company WuXi AppTec), a massive Chinese global biotech contractor. The $3 Billion Vaccine Deal: Through its subsidiary WuXi Vaccines, the company signed a massive 20-year, $3 billion contract with an undisclosed "global vaccine leader" to build a dedicated facility to manufacture drug substances and products for a major Western vaccine. Therapeutics and Manufacturing: Beyond vaccines, WuXi facilities in both China and the West routinely manufacture the complex proteins and monoclonal antibodies used in many prominent Western medications.2. Commercial Partnerships for Global Markets Western pharmaceutical giants frequently partner with Chinese manufacturers to co-develop or scale up production. For instance, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has an extensive commercial partnership with the Chinese leading manufacturer Zhifei to co-commercialize and scale production for vaccines like the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccine. Supply Chain Dependencies While the active biological ingredient (the antigen) of a Western vaccine is rarely fully produced by a Chinese company for the U.S. market, China dominates the upstream chemical supply chain: Raw Chemical Precursors: China produces the vast majority of raw starter chemicals, amino acids, and inactive stabilizers used globally to stabilize vaccines during production. Ancillary Hardware: A large percentage of the physical glass vials, syringe plungers, and sterile packaging used by Western drugmakers is sourced from factories in China.Increasing Western ScrutinyThis deep manufacturing integration has become a major political flashpoint in the United States and Europe. The U.S. government has pushed forward legislative measures—such as the BIOSECURE Act—specifically aimed at limiting the reliance of U.S. pharmaceutical companies on certain Chinese biotech entities like WuXi over national security and supply chain vulnerabilities. In response, many of these contractors have aggressively built or acquired factories outside of mainland China—such as in Switzerland, Singapore, and the United States—to ensure they can legally continue supplying Western drug companies. |

I felt tired and didn’t want to do very much. Mow the lawn, no way. Have dinner, watch TV, work on the computer etc no problem. Everyone is different so your mileage may vary. |

Shingles is very painful and if you get it in the wrong place can blind you. Tetanus can lead to a very painful death. Pneumonia is often fatal for older people. You can get the shots or take your chances. I like to put the odds in my favor. |

Shingles really, really sucked and I had a mild-ish case of it. After that I got the vaccine, always have gotten tdap when needed as I tend to get scratched up a lot working on the property/fences. I've been on the fence about pneumonia vaccine, seems like a good idea but I'm not sure I'm at an age yet that I'm concerned about it yet. |

I’ve always had the tetanus shot since forever with no adverse reactions but the more I read about it the more it seems like the chances of getting tetanus are exceedingly slim at least within my circle. For the shingles vaccine I got it because as was mentioned the shot sucks but getting shingles sucks a shit load worse, and a buddy of mine almost lost his eyesight when he got it on his face right up close to his eyelid so fuck that. I’m not sure if it actually prevents you from getting shingles or we’re just minimize the effects, but I’ll take either one. As far as pneumonia, up until just a few years ago, when the main EMT and my agency was discussing it, I didn’t even know they had the vaccine for that and I’ve never gotten it. I’ve had pneumonia before when I was a kid, but I’ve not gotten the shot. For reference my wife who just retired as a doctor, got the shingles vaccine, but I don’t believe she got the pneumonia one. Not sure about tetanus. she probably has that but maybe not a recent booster. Her healthcare companys policy was that all providers had to have the Covid shot as well as the flu shot every year, which was a major decision in her deciding to say fuck that, I’m retiring, but I don’t know about the other stuff being required. |

I still do a fair amount of handyman type stuff helping out my neighbors so handling wood, metal, etc. it's one I get as recommended. |

The tetanus bacteria is anaerobic and thrives in animal bowels. If you can clean a cut and/or it's shallow enough to be exposed to oxygen, you'll be fine. Unless you have a deep puncture wound and handle animal shit on a regular basis, you're not getting tetanus. Somewhere along the way, doctors convinced everyone that any minor nick with a rusty nail was going to give you tetanus. |

I have a compromised immune system. Until a few years ago I was defenseless against shingles. Shingrix (dead virus DNA) came out. It is safe for people like me. I learned about it before my dermatologist did. He wrote out a prescription and both Mrs Rabinowitz and I got the shots. Expect a sore arm. However, I've seen people blinded by shingles. I had chicken pox 60 years ago, and I want no part of it. |
In my defense, I was left unattended.

Pneumonia vaccine? No way. Never again. Ever.Way back in 1984 they said we needed those in Germany one day.. Gotta trust the Gov and the Army right? ![]() Well, within 48 hrs of getting the pneumonia shot I was messed up sick. Still did PT, all of the work, but it was 2 months of the most brutal sickness. The worst was being exhausted from working all day and not being able to sleep good. Lungs kept filling up with fluid. It was horrible. Never again-

I used to get TDAP regularly (every 5-6 years), but since I retired I've let it lapse. Shingles is something I won't mess with, I've seen the aftermath. But anything else ... NO, unless they can prove it's absolutely necessary. During a routine physical (during COVID) my regular doctor wasn't available so I had another on in the practice see me, things were going great then it happend. Nurse walks in with a prefilled syringe and the doc said we noticed you haven't had your COVID shot so we will just take care of that right now. He was really suprised when I politely refused, he stated he had to give it to me as it was an emergency situation. I told him if he thought he could hold me down I'd take it, he declined the offer and asked what he should do with it, he didn't like that answer either. Later I got a text from my regular doctor asking why I "threatened" another doctor, when I told him the whole story he laughed. He said my chart is marked for them to ask first and answer questions but don't argue or threaten. For the record I had to take vaccinations for everything for my job and I'm done, I figure if something gets me now I deserve it. But I'll survive it just the same. |

The abstracts required approval for submission to a conference on drug safety. When questioned by The BMJ the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees the FDA, defended the decision. “The studies were withdrawn because the authors drew broad conclusions that were not supported by the underlying data,” Emily Hilliard, HHS press secretary, told The BMJ. “The FDA acted to protect the integrity of its scientific process and ensure that any work associated with the agency meets its high standards. |
