Especially on dress shirts. 90% of all the shirts I own are pocketless. The ones that aren't were the ones I couldn't find without a pocket.

Incorrect.  They are great for holding a hotel key card when your suit pants are full of phone, wallet, or pistol.

That said, open-top pockets on a shirt front are a pain in the ass when I'm taking a rifle on or off my shoulder.  I feel like the toe of the butt gets caught every goddamn time.

Wrong. T-Shirts? I'd agree. T-Shirts aren't meant to have the structural integrity of a dress/button up shirt.

Any time I put something weighing more than 2 ounces in a T-Shirt pocket, it pulls the shirt neck down and stretched out like I'm some trailer trash kid who just got done fighting with his brothers.

I've always liked tshirts with pockets since I used to keep my smokes there. Don't smoke anymore, still like the pocket 🤷‍♂️

I have one northface buttondown that has a very useful extra pocket, that is a bit taller and just narrow, made for the temple of a pair of glasses, and it sits behind/within the usual breast pocket, so that it all holds the glasses upright, and the lenses are protected.

I won't buy dress shirts that don't have a pocket.

It has become rather difficult to buy shirts in more recent times, as it seems that fashion trends agree with OP instead.

Button-down shirts should always have at least one pocket, if you're buying men's shirts.

The best pocket is the upper sleeve pocket on long-sleeve work shirts.

The Parker Stainless Steel pen in my shirt pocket can be used to sign things, and is a last ditch weapon in restricted areas.  YMMV

More often than not, if wearing such a dress shirt when out to a nice dinner with my wife, it’s ever perfect spot for the parking ticket to sit to get validated by the restaurant on the way out.

Pockets are also helpful to getting your shirt on the right way on the very first try.

T shirt pockets were originally for a pack of nonfiltered cigs, I have a feeling.

Dress shirt, no pocket

Casual outdoor shirt, lots of pockets. Check out the 5.11 Stryke as an example.

I agree. My work shirt has a pocket. I put screws and stuff in there. Then I bend over to pick something up and they all go rolling down the hallway.

I refuse to wear shirts without pockets

Used to put my smokes in them but i quit smoking.

About the time I quit smoking I started wearing glasses. Now I put my glasses in my shirt pockets.

You're entitled to your opinion, even if it's wrong. The lack of pockets is just one of the reasons I hated when EMS started switching to polos over the traditional uniform shirts.  That said, I'm fine with no pocket on my casual wear polos that I buy, but even most of my T-shirts have a pocket (Duluth, pre-woke Carhartt, etc).

At our house we refer to a pocket on a tshirt as a biscuit pocket.
We were having dinner at my grandmother's one night and as I am about to bite into a biscuit a tree limb falls, made a huge noise. Without missing a beat I put my biscuit into said pocket and went to investigate. I hadn't really realized what I had done. By the time I returned the name was done.
So yes biscuit pockets are useful.

The pocket is useful in that it breaks up the “stylistic monotony” of the rest of the t-shirt.

That’s enough for me.
