I was shocked at the price for ONE rough sawn white oak board 8/4 x 8" x 11' $175. In your AO, how much would you pay? |

Is it dried? I'm assuming it's ungraded, or at least not rigorously graded? Because they're leaving money on the table. My local store is well known for fair prices and they're sending out many palletized loads around the country every day, and their prices are around double that. |

8/4 is going to be more than 4/4 boards. Select and quarter sawn white oak you bet will be a premium. And for the love of God, stay away from flatsawn oak, especially red oak. It looks like shit with those big catherdal growth rings If its exposed on some furniture or cabinets, get quarter sawn. Or at the least rift sawn. Much more stable too, besides the looks. |

For plain sawn here it would hover around $125, probably a premium due to the width so maybe more. Quarter sawn I'd say it would be about $175. Even soft maple is ridiculous at around ~$6.50/BF for 8/4. The covid farce really fucked up everything, and the Russia/Ukraine war caused Baltic Birch to become laughably expensive when it was dirt fucking cheap for over nearly twenty years (as in, the price didn't change). It's interesting how a lot of the tropical exotics are cheaper than domestics, and before the covid farce they were significantly cheaper. |

When I bought some more to make a bed for my daughter the price was about a dollar less a BF. Chapped my ass but that's just how it is sometimes. The money you spent on the wood for the bed is money well spent. That bed will last decades, compared to the utter garbage that is retail furniture.
