What a tight but quirky band. Larry on guitar.

The first time I saw this video, it was 5 minutes of WTF. I watched so much MTV waiting for it to come back up in the rotation. I think I wore out my Pork Soda CD.

They are awesome.
Larry went from playing in a death metal band to Primus. Not sure how that happened. |

Primus Sucks! |

Saw them at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville during the Primus and the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble tour.
Great show. Lots of older stuff, then the Chocolate Factory stuff, then more older stuff. The Chocolate Factory portion caused me to utter a sentence I never thought anyone would ever have cause to ever utter... "The Xylophone player ROCKED!" |

Fun Fact:
Les Claypool was considered to replace Cliff Burton in Metallica after he died. |

Larry LaLonde is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. If he wasn't in a band with a bass God, he'd get more credit for his skills, but then it wouldn't be Primus.

Saw them waaaay back in the day at Lollapalooza with Alice in Chains, Fishbone, and a handful of other bands. Great show.
Les Claypool is a bass playing God! EDIT: Fun fact about this show. Ok, imagine Houston, Texas in July or August, (think that's when the show was). It was held at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas, (about 30 minutes east of Houston). It was fucking SCORCHING HOT and literally no shade for a giant music festival. We'd been out there all day and they had giant water hoses that they were using to spray water out over the crowd to cool us down. Was actually a lot of fun. Primus came on right as the sun was going down and I was down in the pit standing in about 6-8 inches of muck and mud. See where this is going?? Anyway, they started there set and the usual Primus shenanigans kicked off. Then, when those oh so sweet, familiar beginning notes, of "My Name is Mud" started every person down in the crowd immediately grabbed handfuls of mud and let them fly! It was awesome. Mud was everywhere and we were all covered from head to toe. Best concert I've ever been to. |

I also enjoy the slightly less refined sound of their Brown Album:

I should have made the trip to see them do Fairwell to Kings, they were musically spot on but no one can hit those vocals like Geddy even though Les tried

Primus videos keep showing up on my feed. I don’t know anything about them but they are weird AF and I’m starting to appreciate their humor.

Quoted: I love Primus but lets not get carried away here. View Quote I’m not the biggest fan of Primus, I enjoy it, but Tim is a better drummer than Danny. I’ve even seen Danny play with Primus when Tim was going through all that heart shit and Primus was on my stage I was doing sound for the festival at. It was horribly disappointing. I was really excited for that show as well…. |
