An old project sitting in my cabinet unused. Oiled it up to give to my daughter since she will get some good use out of it.
Lesson learned on this. I cut the accent strip and flipped it over 180 degrees vertically. In other words, the top became the bottom. The walnut was considerably darker on the bottom. It would have been better to flip the accent piece 180 degrees horizontally, which would have resulted in the same effect, but the colors would have been similar. Made a thing to help get the tapered tooling out of the lathe once pressed in.
Jaw chuck came in the mail. So looking forward to playing with that. Attached File |

I kinda like the off color strip! Adds more oomph to the board RLR350.
Be careful on that chuck ShootinDave as I posted before somehow my one chuck as morphed into eight! And I have two more sets of jaws coming in this week to go with who knows how many I already have! |

Started with a 5x2 piece of leopard wood. Sliced it in half and turned to 1/2 inch thick. Sanding sealer applied and will wait to see if there is any movement before final finish.

I thought this turned out pretty good. Mallet. Head is mesquite and padauk. Handle is maple. Wedges are cherry. 100% scrap bin project.

Hammer came out great! I need to make one for my shop. Might be a good project for this week.

The mallet head is mortised just by virtue of using two pieces (one on either side of the tenon) for the center section. Tenon the handle first and size the mortise around that. Great project for using up smallish scraps. You could make all kinds of weird patterns in the mallet head if you have the patience to do all the glue-ups. I like your turnings by the way. |

Nice. Love the steel work!
Made another dish out of a different kind of Maple. Don't mind the dust on the bottom I dropped it into the sawdust pile. Attached File |

I made the metal parts out of mild steel rod, on my forge and anvil. |

My brother asked if I could make something to stir the bottom of a 20 inch pot. Grabbed a 1 1/2 inch thick 18 inch long chunk of Maple.(biggest my machine will take)

Wife decided she wanted a kitchen utensil also. I thought let's try and make a spoon! First one ever. Gave it a fish tail handle for now. Might carve a few lines in it. Not sure I like it. Might cut it off and just go basic round.

After a 5 day bout with killer arthritis and back pain I was able to spend a few hours in the shop today. Thank goodness Tylenol and Advil can keep it to a dull ache! Picked up a half a pickup load of Walnut today and decided to turn one that's still wet. Rough turn is complete and it is in a bag with shavings to hopefully dry without cracks.

My sister is always using the excuse:
"Yah but" You know, yah but it was raining! Yah but it was on sale! Yah but it was blue! Yah but etc. etc. One day I looked at her and said: What's a yabut? Are they little creatures that jump in the woods? Now it's a running joke every time she says it! Today I caught one! I will surprise her hopefully this weekend. Attached File Attached File |
