The softest most rotten chunk of maple I had! Only piece big enough for what I wanted to do. Started turning at 6 high 12 around and ended up with 5 high and 10 round. Two coats of resin mixed with alcohol to make it firm up enough to finish. Ice pick penetrated all the way in on one side of the piece! I put my finger thru it in one spot before it flew off.

Perhaps one day, soon I hope, I can enjoy hours upon hours just making things. |

I would really like to move on to something else - but all my friends seem to want me to make these simple charcuterie boards and matching dipping trays, oh well...

Craft show season has been pretty good for me this year so I'm going to have to suck it up and get cracking in the shop. |

I use many different ones. Mostly shellac sealer with ax abrasive paste and carnauba wax. I also use just walnut oil on things that might be used with food.

Antique brass owl bookmarks with turned cabochons. The one on the right is purple dyed and stabilized maple burl, and the two in the left are the last of the oak I had from Christ Curch College in Oxford England. This wood is from the location where the Great Hall scenes from the Harry Potter films were shot.
