I made a ton of money making collars, cuffs. restraints etc etc. when the buyers found out I'm a carpenter that opened up lots of side work which helped after 911 when construction stopped abruptly. I know I put a couple of dozen hooks in ceilings, built a few dungeons and built sound proof rooms in many basements. 2000ish I was getting $25.00 for custom paddles. how much do you sell your paddles for? |

I only have a 13” lunchbox planer so that’s my limit for running a whole board through. I have made a 20” wide board out a pair of 10” that I glued together. As for pricing, I think I was selling those for $85 each. I have friends that say I was under pricing them but it was what I could get for them. My next batch I’m hoping to have a better pricing method. |

Been trying to get into wood working since I only have 15 or so hobbies at the moment, and I saw a thread on here about a coat rack that appeared to be made from pine and stained. I got a good deal on a scroll saw and decided to try my hand at making one, but using walnut and alder instead of just pine. On this one 2 of the 3 peaks lined up pretty good, but one got a little squirrely. I forged the hooks as well, but I'm debating on trying to make bigger ones. Still a work in progress but with my limited shop and experience I had anticipated a bunch of failed attempts.

Reindeer with the band saw on 2x4 crap lumber. First try so I didn't want to use good stuff. It came out ok. Need a new blade for the saw. This is fresh off the saw with no cleanup. Attached File Attached File |

I vote for three times bigger than the ones on the prototype. And actually cut the boughs of the trees out so they are separated. Go big!

Attached File Attached File First try making dovetails completely by hand and first try making half blind dovetails It has one coat of Tried and True varnish on it so far and I still need to make a drawer pull. |

It put me behind a couple of days but I made 6 new hooks, and I definitely think it was worth it. With more time I think I could have added more detail to the trees, but these have to get to my family by Christmas, and I still have to get the finish on the wood. Last year I got a bandsaw at a yard sale for $10 and with some wiring and a new switch I needed a project. I found the reindeer pattern and cranked a bunch out for gifts. Pine is super fragile and I had 2 fall over and break. Redwood 2x4s worked really well for me and seemed to be more durable and I think they looked better. I will have to take some pics of those and post them.
