One of the most beautiful and fascinating things to see is a fully rigged sailing ship under full sail.

Well, I must concede HMS Victory was a beautiful beast of a warship.

Have sailed on the 'Spirit of adventure' here in NZ as a teenager it was exhilarating going up the masts and then out on the yards to sort the sails. In a bit of swell and wind it was an awesome experience.

If in San Franciscograd, go to the Maritime Museum (kitty corner to Ghiradelli Square) and see the Balcutha and Alma (scooner).  Both are beautiful ships.

Admission:  I've never seen Old Ironsides (but I have been aboard the HMS Victory and the ironclad HMS Warrior).

You are not wrong!
I used to love building models of sailing ships.
The last one under construction was a large model of the Cutty Sark.
Unfortunately, when I moved the moving company packed the model in a cardboard box and broke most of it to pieces, ended up being a total loss.

different strokes for different folks

Some men like cars, some like trucks, some like hot rods, some rat rods, some like cruisers, some like sport bikes.

Then some like boats..  those poor bastards never let their wallets catch a breath.

It depends entirely on the type of sailing vessel.
A clipper ship with its numerous masts and sleek lines is beautiful.
As is a twin master schooner.
Even the viking long boat or trireme.
Even a traditional man o war or galleon is fetching.

But the Chinese junk, looks like junk.
Also the Caravel looks squat and unwieldy.

That totally sucks!  Always like the looks of the Cutty Sark, and the name.  I've never built a model of a sailing ship, now I want to.

500 lonely souls on a mobile island for months on end. I'm sure many a man sought pleasure in another man's britches. I don't think this is one of most beautiful and fascinating things to see.

You've never talked to a pilot.

I said to a pilot once: "A boat is a hole in the water into  which you shovel tons of money."

The pilot sneered and said "BOAT OWNERS DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPEND MONEY!"

An airplane is just a hole in the air you pour money into that has been heavily regulated by the government.

I can appreciate a sailing ship just as much as quad V12 outboards on a Columbian pharmaceutical delivery boat.

It's like debating blondes vs redheads vs brunettes.  You may have a preference, but your not passing up the opportunity to ride a different variation.

I was on the Eagle for a long cruise from Yorktown, VA to the Azores.  I wish that I would’ve taken the time to enjoy my time onboard more.  It’s really quiet yet incredibly powerful when making way.  It is breathtaking when it is under full sail and heeled over.   When you climb the mast and walk out on one of the yard arms, all you see is water below you when the ship is heeled over.  This picture was taken from one of the lifeboats during launch/recovery training:

We had to remember the names of all of those different lines that raise/lower the sails and turn the yard arms. I bet there was almost a couple hundred of them:

Below deck on the mess deck.  Notice the level of the drink dispenser when under full sail:

If you see a sailing ship and your mind immediately goes to gay butsex instead of girls sunbathing in bikinis or exotic islands full of half naked native girls I think that says more about you than the sailing ships.
