In a touch of a pickle here, but not a hurry.

Long story: parked truck (05 taco) early summer. Forgot to run it and whatnot, dead battery. Both keys clapped out, won’t open door locks (did many years ago, never used). Back window is pretty tight and won’t bump. Winch leads are very easily accessible from the wheel-well.

Plan: cut winch leads, use leads from battery to charge enough to unlock with keyfob, pop hood. Then install some kind of outdoor/storm-rated quick connect, and snap them back together.

It’s like 3/16” (conductor) dia wire. Haven’t cut it yet to verify. What kind of connection does the Hive recommend? Am I being an idiot?

Is there a cover on the winch you can remove to hook up jumper cables or a trickle charger? I'd avoid cutting your cables if there's another way to skin the cat.

They're not easy to install in a cramped space, but the high amperage Anderson powerpole connectors would
meet your requirement for QD. They come in up to 180A versions.

The redneck way would be to just put 3/8" ring terminals on everything and bolt them together and wrap in a lot of
tape.

ETA:

A locksmith can probably open the door in a couple minutes and then you can pop the hood and deal with it
from there. It's basically a lockout situation.

Can you get to the starter from underneath? Just hook up some jumper cables from there if you can.

Can you access the power terminals on the winch? If you can, I would use jumper cables to connect so you can get the doors unlocked.

Another option might be trickle charging through the trailer plug if it has a direct battery connection.

Hire someone to use a slim jim and open the door in the cab.

Thanks for the Anderson link. That style was showing up when I tried searching but wasn’t sure if they’re actually appropriate for this use.

Charging off the starter poles would probably work fine. Obviously hadn’t thought of that.

The poles of the winch are inaccessible without having to unbolt the bumper/winch which is a job for two men and a jack.

Might need to take it to a lock shop after opening to get a bigger key cut. Not fixin to pay someone to come out and open it. I hear that a dealer can search a database for the tumbler combo via the VIN. May end up doing that.

Thinking it would be useful long term, since the truck is parked 99.9%, to have that QD setup, so I can make a pigtail for it, converting to whatever is necessary for a trickle charger hookup.

It’s lifted, I have generous access to the winch leads, so plenty easy to cut the connector in.

The Andersons work very well. When we built show vehicles and car audio demo vehicles years ago we used them to connect the vehicle to high amperage power supplies as most indoor venues required the battery be disconnected. We put them under the vehicle somewhere and always soldered them. I never had an issue with corrosion or anything else. For charging purposes something much smaller would be fine. I would probably try to connect a charger to the starter lead as suggested first though.

If the key is that worn, the lock probably is too. If it were me, I'd probably get a new ignition
cylinder with the correct pins set up (so you don't need two keys/don't need to rekey doors)
to get back to a working setup.

The andersons are nice if you have an application that can use them. In some cases even 180A
isn't enough, though -- I'd check the max draw on the winch just to be sure.

Peel insulation off each wire about an inch wide and connect jumper cables. When done disconnect the cables at the battery and slip heat shrink over the ends and slide to cover missing insulation. No worries about current capabilities of a repair
