The GD post "I ask again, if you’re not out shooting with a shot timer, why not?" has me wondering.

I know when I was in shot timers were not used in my training, but that was almost 40 years ago.

Are shot timers used in training in the military? And is so for which type of training did they get used?

They are used in various training, but a different method was used for basic rifle skills.  Pop up targets, which basically provides a par time.
