2000 Peterbilt with a series 60 11.1L Detroit Diesel engine. Driver ran it out of fuel. Valve in the transfer tube connecting the tanks stuck closed so the driver ran out of fuel in the right tank. How would you prime the fuel system to restart the truck?  No air tank to pressure up the fuel system. Driver says to remove fuel filters, fill with diesel, re-install and crank the engine until it starts. Is he correct? Does this engine not have a priming pump on the backside of the fuel pump? My experience is with the DT and DTA series of engines and you would fill the fuel filters then stroke the primer pump till it got hard and then start the truck. Thanks

Removing and filling the filters is the most common way. It would take a lot of cranking to fill those filters without doing so.

If new filters are available fill those and put them on.

I don’t know if those had a mechanical or electric lift pump. If it’s electric once the filters are filled cycle the key ten times to prime the system a little better. Hopefully someone comes along with more specific information.
