| Brothers. Been a Mason for almost 48 years. Began under the jurisdiction of the GL of Philippines while in Tokyo. Moved to Arkansas and moved through the chairs. PM of Marion 686. I have now moved to another state and find that the petition includes the following question “Do you believe in the resurrection of the body?” To which an affirmative answer is required for approval. What say all of you? I am told that the GM declared this to be a requirement almost 100 years ago. |

If it were indeed made a hundred years ago, Lodges weren't quite as open back then religiously as its understood to be now. I can't quote the exact year offhand but it was surprisingly recent when the NMJ of the Scottish Rite began allowing Jewish men (and perhaps others, I'm not sure) to receive the 18th degree and up. |

Since Masonry is NOT a religious organization, basically demanding that only Christians are allowed to join seems to be against the tenets of Masonry! I know that the allegories of Masonry are deeply related to building of the Temple and events in the early days of Christianity. |

I'm curious if that is a current petition (even though it's on their website). I have been doing a lot of research on the relationship between Mormons and Utah Freemasonry. While there was an unofficial ban on their membership from the beginning of our G.L., it did not become official until 1925 and then was not added to the petition until 1927. The ban was removed in 1984 but the petition was not updated until 1986. Would be curious what the GSec or GM had to say. I don't know either of them or I would reach out. |
