Depends. But 60k silicone diff fluid would work nicely in your situation.  You may want to have a lighter weight in the front. Maybe 50k. Or just run both 60k. Unless your racing, probably won't notice a big difference.

No, I tried to put her car in training mode and she got mad at me. ‘But your car isn’t in training mode so mine shouldn’t be!’ Was her argument.

Yes, it has front and rear differentials. I’ll take them apart this weekend. What oil should I be using on them?

Personally, I would ditch the traxxas batteries and get real ones. Cut the traxxas plug off the car and solder on an XT30 or XT60 plug on the truck. Sell the traxxas charger and grab a normal one.
I have an ISDT charger and love it. Use it to charge my car batteries as well.

In that picture, I see it’s about time you go brushless.

I’m currently freshening an old 1/8 scale SC8.2e for bashing.  Going to panel the cage and turn it into a scale Ultra4 desert truck.

What did you decide on?

Actually, I have way too many projects going on.

I went from building tons of nostalgic Tamiya models and beefing them up to handle brushless and Lipo, to taking race spec type chassis and building them into heavy duty bashers.  My current addiction is desert vehicle type builds.

Here’s another that’s based on the same design as the one above.  A Factory Team RC8.2e I bought dirt cheap from a local racer.  Going to make it into a Baja bug.  The car in the background is a Tamiya Monster Beetle.Attachment Attached File

My intention is to have it turn out looking like this.

Got my parts truck today.  I think we have more fun bashing these low powered  brush motor stuff than the brushless one.  I don't cringe every time something happens.

We actually deliberately try to crash in to each other now.  I'm not worried about breaking it.

Now that I have it I wonder if I should just keep playing with this one in lieu of using it for repairs on the brushless powered variant.

Hobbyking has a sale right now, 15% off with MDAY19 code through the weekend if you spend $70+

Best bang for the buck 4s battery right here, you’d just need to also add an EC5 to XT90 adapter or just buy a set of EC5 and remove the XT90 that’s on the battery and replace it.  It’s not a hard pack, but the Kraton is pretty well protected.  The battery dimensions are 145mmx50mmx37mm for this one.  Free shipping from US warehouse if you spend $50 or more.

I’m a platinum member, so your price might be a few bucks more than mine.

I use this pack in my 1/8 scale SC8, DB8 and RC8.

I prefer to buy Arrma since they are more rugged than the other RCs I’ve used

Mine have never broken and waiting 2-3 days for a part will not break my heart

If it does, you need to buy more RCs to play with in the meantime

Arrma kind of shit the bed on this one.

Parts are out of stock everywhere, for a new release parts should be readily available on consumable parts.

So my $400 truck is dead in the water over a $3 part.

I ordered a complete front and rear set through my shop, but have no idea when they’ll be able to get them.

It was a blast for the 5mins I got to use it though

ETA. Found a set on fleabay

If it's new enough, they're probably still pushing most of the parts to the assembly line instead of the spares supply.

Broke mine on day 2

I was gifted an old TMAXX that only needed a new engine. Bought a 3.3 and a few replacement parts for some worn pieces. Got her started yesterday and broke it in. Went passenger tire first into a rock going 30 or so today. Busted A arm and control arm. Bent a shock and lost one completely. Still havent even painted my new body.

Good times

I realize that doesn't help you today, but waiting for parts is just part of it.

Back when I bought my Yeti I pulled it out of the box, threw a battery in it, and was driving around the back yard.  Managed to hit a bump and launch it into the corner of the garage.  Broken a-arm, bent hinge pin, and broke the spindle mount.  Total run time less than 10 minutes.  Stuff like that is how I end up with a box full of spares for each of my r/c vehicles.

I bought my slash 4x4 used.  I smacked a rock going pretty fast and it broke the a-arm off the hinge pin.  I got to looking at it and managed to "snap" it back on the hinge pin and keep driving.  It came off a couple more times when I hit a big bump but at least I could still play.  Turns out it was an RPM a-arm the previous owner had put on.

If it’s a new release, you should not expect that every tiny part is readily available ASAP

That’s how it is for any industry

Don’t expect plastic RCs to hit hard immovable objects and win

you'll want speed. get the brushless.
3s blx is a pretty good deal. You'll need a battery with EC5 connector (or adapter to the car's EC5), charger, and 4AA for the remote. I love mine.

Parts can be found easily at hobby town, amain hobbies, or ebay.

I love mine, just got a new front bumper. full speed into a curb

if you want a cheap basher, Hobby Town has one:

Those brushed motors will not last, I’d suggest getting a brushless model right out of the gate

Traxxas might have better parts availability locally, but Arrma has great parts availability within a couple of days

That’s not a problem for me since I have multiple RCs to use if one was to ever break

No suck luck.
Spur gear bearings shit themselves, and so when the tiny bearings came out the got into the platic spur gear and helped tear all the teeth off it.  Luckily the new parts are all of $12

Are they sealed bearings?  The parts diagrams don't mention "sealed".  If they aren't, you might consider replacing them with sealed.

Got my truck back together.

Went to a big school and got some runtime in.

Handed off to the wife who promptly whiskey throttled it into the bleachers.

Front end body took a slight scuff, but all was well until the rear wheel separated from the hub.

Pressed it back in and it seems ok.

Crawlers are a lot less to mess with
