Do any of you run non-blacked out suppressor sights with a red dot? I have some white ring sights and wondering if they'd be distracting with a dot..

The only irons I find distracting are night sights when shooting through night vision. But that's what electrical tape is for.

I have night fission sights and a 507c on a G19 sized P80 but I haven’t shot it much. Dry firing and the shooting I have done with it I didn’t find the sights distracting at all. With the dot your focus is on the target, so the sights are just a little blurry blob in the foreground. Sights the same color as the dot would not be ideal though.

Permanent marker or black nail polish could fix that.

Anyone got a good training technique for dialing in the presentation?

I'm new to pistol dots and have been working on presentation for a couple of weeks.  I'm to the point that 95% of the time the dot is in the window and on target when I draw.  The other 5% is what keeps me from carrying it yet.

I have to make a conscious effort to do everything right.  Does it ever become completely natural feeling?  With irons I draw and it's just on target.  I'm assuming that's because the eyes see the irons as they are coming into view and are aligned without thought as they move to the target.

It aso seems that I need to put at least 5 or 10 reps in at the start of the day because my first few are usually off.  Most of the time the dot is slightly out of the window to the 12 o'clock if it's "missing" unless my grip is jacked up.

Just keep doing what I'm doing or does anyone have some drills/reading/videos that would help me out?

I would recommend warming up your dry fire practice with an isometric exercise where you align your dot with the target and hold with a good muscle contraction of all your supporting muscles for a slow ten count and then reholster. I repeat for 5 reps before I really begin. You are working on building muscle memory. This also strengthens all your grip and recoil control muscle groups as well.

In the beginning it's also good to go at a quarter or third speed of normal and work on smooth movements free of unnecessary travel. I will start with a generous par time and shave off 2 tenths every 5 or 10 reps until I get to my current full speed draw.

edited to add: if you are on target with irons try holding your head fully upright if you aren't already, your weapon is likely close to alignment as is.

The irons aren't as perfect as they appear, it's just harder to see the alignment errors because they aren't glowing in front of you.

As for practice, tape the lens with painters tape. It'll force you to focus on the target instead of hunting for the dot like you're used to doing with the irons.

You can still shoot with the lens taped, accurately, just helps your brain get out of its own way in the beginning.

Sweeet Jeezus did I just have a "well DUh you DuMbass!" moment.

I have been "training" myself on this carry dot sight for about a month. I probably would have sped my learning curve up had I sought proper training, but I didn't.

I have been drawing and dry firing dozens of times a day, getting to the range for the same drill with live fire 2-3 times a week, and doing ok....I would still have the moment of not being able to find the dot, once in awahile, especially when going fast.

Today I was at the range, drawing on Steel Challenge Smoke and Hope stage. Just me, not a competion.

I had a couple "where is the fucking dot?" moments, when it struck me that if I quit worrying about the dot, and raise the pistol like I always do, putting front and rear sight kind of in my unfocused vision......THE DOT WILL BE RIGHT THERE! CO-WITNESS IS A THING!

Lesson: Don't overthink it.

That 55 MOA (55, 58…???) ring isn’t that big…pleasant surprise. A very pleasant surprise.

Actually resembles a big, fat hairy dot but without the hair.

ETA: I’m almost thinking “gimme dat”.

Thread needs more pictures.

Just moved a 509t from my G34 to a G20 to have an enclosed emitter for a woods gun.
G34 got upgraded with a SRO mounted using a FCD plate and a BROS.
Need to find the correct size irons for both of anyone knows.

I just thought it a worthwhile PSA. I readily trust Japanese QC and standards over chicom any day of the week. This is not to say chicom can't produce a good product, just that a company who would contract a chicom manufacturing facility must be extremely vigilant when working with them.

Ruger MKIII with Q's El Camino, PA's micro dot on a Madd Macs mount.
G19.2 with Dagger slide with Sico Omega9k, RMR

I wanted to try a dot on my carry gun.  I've put a few hundred rounds through it and I won't be going back.  I wanted the optic as far back as possible because I carry the gun low AIWB.  The optic sits on top of my belt and I don't notice a difference between carrying with or without the optic.
