I have a 9mm stainless barrel that I would like to refine for 32acp

The liner has a .500 diameter.

What's the best way to remove the rifiling from the existing barrel? I'm concerned a out the interuppted cuts that would come from just running a drill bit down the 9mm bore.

I plan to ream to final press fit dimensions for the barrel, I'll freeze the liner and heat the bore.

Did my 22 WRF (24" bbl - 3/8" liner) on my 9" lathe.  Didn't experience any issues with interrupted cut causing problems.  Started with a stubby end mill after dialing the bore concentric with a 4 jaw, then a stubby bit, then a 12".

Assuming we're talking a pistol barrel I'd think if you can get it lined up straight in a rigid setup actual drilling could probably be done in a (good) drill press to get it started, but I wouldn't want to have to face off the liner, crown or chamber it without a lathe.

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't have thought of using an end mill.

Turns out I don't need to do this anyway. There's a barrel available in 32 anyway, but I wondered how it was done anyway.

The drills brownells sells just for this have a guide.  I've turned my own guided drills on a lathe with a tool post grinder because I have a lathe so I don't have to spend $60 or $80 on a drill bit.  I silver solder extensions on the as needed.

I make my own drill bits with guides on my D-bit grinder. I can easily make them in HSS or carbide.
