I mean, depending on how long the sightings last, it should be easy enough to get a few up in the air if people were carrying their hobby drones around in their cars or something. That idea doesn't seem like rocket surgery or brain science to me, but I live in a Wyoming-adjacent state, and that whole rural-life mentality "leave me be and I won't bother you" lack of curiosity is real. |

I concur, I really think it's China, and my greatest fear is that we know and can't do anything about it... or worse TPTB are indeed so sold out they just aren't going to do anything about it. I believe this is tied in with the NJ drones and the Langley and Wright Pat AFB incidents. |

It would reason that a bad actor could use drones quite easily here on US soil, hence the recent drone ban. The US gov should investigate and find the source. Recon of critical infrastructure by a bad actor is a high priority national security threat. With the proliferation of cheap “suicide drones” with explosive packages should make it clear just how bad they can be for the US. US air assets could probably loiter and track drones without much issue. If these drones are not trackable then it’s a much bigger issue. |

Instead of shooting them down and losing a job, how about getting video or pictures? If such a thing didn’t violate company policy as well. That was my thought as well, that surely they must have some resources to protect the airspace, at a minimum. But that may very well be harder than it sounds. The larger issue though is that in order to get to the bottom of this, they need to find out who is operating the drones and what their intent is, and that seems to me to be a nearly intractable problem. If any government agency anywhere in the world has had much success with this, I haven't heard about it. |

If it only happens at night, borrow the thermal vision camera the electricians probably have to check over the station for hot spots, and take some video. Every district in my company has at least one very expensive FLIR camera that they use to find problems at the stations before they become actual problems. I mean, I can't say if your company has such equipment or practices in place, but if they do, seems like a very good use for it. Drones, of any type, should not be flying near generating facilities, substations, etc. Our linemen are starting to use them to patrol line corridors, but they're never near the stations. |
