I quietly raised my hand and all of the attorneys started making notes. Apparently, all of the parties involved were hoping to control the narrative around that particular issue, and they didn't want to risk having some random juror bringing any outside information into the proceedings and influencing a verdict one way or another. I was the first potential juror to be dismissed.

The second case involved a "gun collector" from Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood. He didn't have an FFL, but he had been buying and reselling frequently enough to attract the attention of the BATFE. The judge in that case asked the usual background questions, and then asked if any potential jurors had "strong feelings" about guns, or perhaps had a family member or close friend who had been a "victim of gun violence." Again, I raised my hand. When questioned, I explained to the judge that I wasn't a victim, I was a survivor, but my personal experience wouldn't interfere with my ability to weigh evidence, consider the relevant laws, and render an impartial verdict. The judge asked for more details, which I started to provide, but then he stopped me in mid-sentence and sent the rest of the jury pool out of the courtroom. The judge had me tell him the rest of my story, then handed a note to the bailiff, thanked me, and sent me home. I haven't been called since.

fuck that noise.   I ordered my 'lightweight' level IV's on Feb. 17th.   They're supposed to be here tomorrow.  247 days.  They'll shave off 5.2 pounds total from my 4401's.

I once ordered two rifles from LaRue.  Height of the '13 panic.  18-months.

So once upon a time, in a thread long ago, there was a group buy from midwest armor on their venture fm stx plate (made by tencate) which is a thin (0.5") triple curve lightweight (4.7-pounds) special threat plate that was tested for 5.56 X 45 M193
SPEER 44 MAG SJHP (NIJ IIIA)*
SPEER 357 SIG FN (NIJ IIIA)*
5.56 x 45mm 62gr Ball (M855 GREEN TIP)*
7.62 x 39mm 123gr PS Ball (Mild Steel Core)*
7.62 X 39 API BZ (SINGLE SHOT)*

The group buy price was very attractive, and while more than I wanted to spend - it seemed like a great deal -- so I fo'd.  I fo'd hard and ordered a set of medium SAPI's so I could use them in both my IMTV and my FCPCv5.

The very next morning I woke up in a cold sweat -- not exactly buyers remorse - but I had a vision  -- sorta like the climatic scene in American Sniper (actually -- I had probably just watched it for the umpteenth time and had it stuck in my head, so no big surprise, but in my dream -- I'm in a counter-sniper position and I'm sending the hate --- but I figure if I'm sending heavy metal, I ought to be prepared for receiving the same.  I know.  Immature childish shit.....but speaking of children....I don't have any.   Life is short, and my wife had just left me a few months earlier.   It was February and the world was freaking out.  What else SHOULD I spend my hard earned limited funds on?  In for a penny, in for a pound -- I say that a lot -- which is why I'm always poors.

So I called them back....took out a well sharpened Esse laserstrike fixed blade and sliced open the belly of my piggy bank from stem to stern - bled that fucker dry, and asked Midwest if I could change my order and pay the difference to get a set of their oh-so-gucci triple curve Venture FM-4 (also made by tencate).  A little heavier and thicker than the group buy plate --- these are 0.9" and 5.5-pounds (actually now that I read the specs again , I think I'll be saving only 4.2 pounds over the 4401's, whatever) --- but the FM-4's will take multi-hit 30.06.   California farmers being a thing, lol.
SPECIAL THREAT TESTING
7.62X63 M2AP (NIJ IV)
7.62X54R API B32
7.62X54R LPS
7.62X51 M80 (NIJ III)
5.56X45 M855 (GREEN TIP)

oh - and it was funny because I built 4 rifles while I was waiting for my 2 larues.   big joke at the time.   I have regrets though.  I ordered my OBR Heavy as a 16".   I should have gotten the 20".  Would have been a lot more useful in my a/o.  Back then I didn't think I would have access to someplace I could stretch out past 600y and thought I'd be mostly shooting under 300.   Now I live at 1,000y all the time and a 16" drops so much velocity.  It's do-able with a 16", but not practical.
