Bryan Slaton (R-Royse City) filed House Bill 2471 on Monday, which aims to give that moniker to the portion of Interstate 35 through downtown Austin between 4th Street and 11th Street, which Slaton refers to as "Tent City" - a pointed reference at a number of homeless encampments under the interstate. "Liberal legacies deserve to be recognized," Slaton said in a statement. "Since the legislature has made it clear it intends to rename some highways and bridges this session, I think it's imperative that we start with a highway that truly recognizes the contributions of Mayor Adler. Texans who don't know history are doomed to repeat it, and with the renaming of this highway we will ensure that citizens of the Texas capital never forget the legacy of failed liberal policies." |

I've heard the argument that "schools turn out people who are better employees, so everyone benefits." Somehow. Indirectly. But there's ample evidence to contradict that claim. |
