Let's face it... NICS and a 4473 is no impediment to an 18 year old. Except for a few kids on the career criminal fast track, you're not old enough to have done anything.  The impediment is money.

As with all enforcement tools.
Tools which are routinely used abusively, like FISA Warrants, Red Flag Orders, and Civil Asset Forfeiture, are tools which the enforcers have proven they cannot be entrusted with.

So the way things are going, how long before food shortage riots begin because of a diesel shortage, unaffordable everythings, Brownshirts going door to door confiscating your guns and gold?

Already reality overseas.  Here there will be big price increases and a lack a variety but I don't think we see widespread famine in the US.

The democrats (at least some of them) loved him.  Just look at the mileage they got out of him, stirring up hatred and division.

Money wasn't much of an impediment, in this case.  From reports, the nutjob spent around $4000 on two AR rifles, ammo, and gear, in the week following his 18th birthday.

It may already be worse than you think.  Nashville's government has put 'do not feed the homeless' (not quite the wording they used) signs up, at the largest homeless camp on the west side of Nashville (might be the largest in Nashville, but I haven't kept up with the details of the other camps).

I was a little curious about how badly they have trashed the park, since the mayor apparently went silent on the issue and started ducking a reporter that had questions about the progress in cleaning it up, so I took the small detour to drive by the entrance to the park.  The entire parking lot is now closed off with a tall chain link fence with a closed and (appears to be) locked gate.  There's just enough room to walk between the fence and the brush, to get to the entrance to the park, and a muddy footpath has been worn in the grass.  There are various signs on the fence, that start with words like WARNING or DANGER and likely explain that the park has been closed to the public, due to the danger created by the camp (sanitation, drug use, assaults, etc), but the largest sign starts off with "STOP!  NO DONATIONS, OF ANY KIND".  I didn't get close enough to read the smaller print, but my guess is that after the mayor finally acknowledged the problem and stated they were working on reducing the size of the camp, Nashville's idiots were shocked that their fellow Nashvillians had fallen into such a state due to COVID and the shutdown (the camp has been there for over a decade), and came out to help them out with donations of food, money, and clothing.  When you feed the bears, you get more bears, and more aggressive bears, and as could be expected, rather than the camp shrinking as the mayor had promised, it grew.  ...then the parks department switched from advising people to stay away from the park, to closing the park.

The dumpster and porta-potties that were placed near the entrance (early last year, I think) are still there, but the amount of trash on the ground and in scattered shopping carts near the entrance leaves some doubt that they are being used.

I'll be in Nashville next weekend for the SIL's birthday celebration. I am looking forward to having fun I am guessing the big touristy areas will be slightly more secure and sanitary?

Much of the original squad is still here (RIP FCSD ) and posting occasionally; summer is the most active time for this thread. The crazy stuff right now is in Sri Lanka which is experiencing a collapse of their economy, but we might get some action soon with protests around the Roe v. Wade SC decision.

Everyone is hopefully slowly transitioning from observers into men-of-action, as the hard times for the US are very near at hand. During those times we will have better things to do than shitpost on ARFcom - and for some I'm sure those times are already here.

In the 1990s, there was a big effort to clean up downtown Nashville, including demolishing a homeless camp that was apparently approaching the status of a shanty town (happened to be on the land that is now part of Titans stadium).  The homeless were encouraged to go somewhere other than downtown.

If you are going to the lower Broad/2nd Ave area, which seems popular with the country music tourists and the bar hoppers, the downtown police precinct is right there on Broad (unless they moved it, again, and I missed the news - ETA: still at 501 Broadway, according to google maps).

I haven't followed the status of downtown homeless camps, but I think there is still one near where I-24 crosses the river (maybe a mile from lower Broad and 2nd Ave), and one under the Jefferson St bridge over the river (about the same distance in the opposite direction).

Wife and I were there in April and downtown was packed with tourists. A few homeless about as well pan-handling but nothing bad. Make sure to do the tour of the Ryman.
