Look, yes, I have banged HUNDREDS of broads. INTERNATIONALLY. But know this - I wrap my rascal, TWO TIMES, cuz I like it to be joyless and without sensation. It's a way of punishing supermodels.

Generally regarded as having the best user interface for an online brokerage app. Ironically their desktop version was often said to be the worst but with Robinhood Legend it’s supposed to be better. The $5 per month gold subscription unlocks a bunch of features and the 3% back credit card can easily pay for it. The people still complaining about them taking away the buy button generally don’t understand cash / stock settlement which isn’t really an issue anymore due to T+1 settlement and more recently the push for tokenized assets which will settle instantly. Management didn’t do a good job of explaining it at the time and the narrative got hijacked by Reddit tier conspiracy theories. I don’t use them because of some goofy stuff regarding options and (last time I checked) they don’t support inherited IRAs and I want to keep all my accounts under one roof. These issues probably don’t affect most people and if I didn’t have them I probably would have already switched to them. |

I know some will disagree with me about that, but I think that is a big improvement over how things were done when I was young. |

I'm more or less impartial, and I understand that "gamification" is a commonly used as a criticism of Robinhood, but I think overall it has been a pretty successful strategy. I also agree with you it has certainly upped the engagement factor in a demographic that doesn't traditionally invest. I wish there was an App like that when I was younger

They give amateurs access to the deep end of the investing pool - futures, shorts, margins, stuff that I would never feel comfortable doing. They promote "get rich quick" type mentality and marketing. So it is just gambling, leads to addiction, and for some people, leads to financial ruin. |

When you make investments that will cause their friends to lose money they will prevent you from making trades or force trades on your behalf where you will lose money. Then, they will get away with it because you winning is bad for the market. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameStop_short_squeeze |

And indeed it has sometimes lead to financial ruin. (Though professionals have also been known to do that, too). I prefer today’s approach to what I went through, though. I think the gambling label is basically meaningless. I enjoy and successfully utilize shorts, occasionally margin, and options, (Never did open a futures account). If you are not comfortable with such methods, don’t use them. |

I have the following. E-trade, Primary for buying and selling stocks and ETFs as well as earning Divs. Of the 3, I much prefer E-Trade. Fidelity, I have an IRA from when I was leaving Charter, right as they merged with TW and stopped 401ks and started everyone IRAs. Robinhood. I have under a 1K I think, or just over in it. I don't really care for it. |

The funny thing about that posters comment is last time I checked Robinhood actually doesn’t allow users to short stock. Meanwhile over at Fidelity I can short stock with the obscene margin they’ve made available to me. |

When the gamestop short squeeze happened with the reddit and chan and gamer dudes ... IIRC robinhood stopped them from trading. They bent the knee to the corrupt system and saved it from getting crashed. The gamestop short came VERY close to breaking key things in the system. Reportedly hair-splittingly close. Gamers almost crushed wallstreet in revenge for the 2008 crash. Robinhood was supposedly advertised as a way for the man on the street to meaningfully get into the big wallstreet system. As I understand it wall street bet that the gamestop company's stock was going to crash, and they borderline - if not actualy did - manipulate things to crash gamestop's stock value. They went kind of above and beyond by betting beyond the safe barriers for a short, but if you short someone that way and their stock doesn't go down, you're suddenly on the hook for HUGE amounts of money as compared to your shorting bet. The "stonk nerds" collectively organized and proceeded to drive the gamestop stock through the ceiling and huge thing - IIRC actual hedge funds - suddenly couldn't cover the payouts triggered by gamestop's stock value being driven up. Things got to the point where the people backing the shorters were seriously looking at costs in the billions and if the trading hadn't have been prematurely stopped it could have broken that system, causing the government and SEC to step in and (eventually) force the taxpayers to save that part of wallstreet's butt ... and robinhood stopping trades was a part of what protected that corrupt system. eta: not an expert, not involved, don't mess with the trading s ystem, this is just one uniformed schmuck's take on that thing + robinhood. You're dumber than a bag of hammers to base investment stuff off what I post. |
