Motorola used to have a lot of engineering presence in Israel, at least before it became a shadow if its former self.

Another interesting thing is that now a number of terrorists and their sympathizers have been publicly marked.

Intelligence officers can watch the hospitals and gather intelligence to use later.

Iran's ambassador severely injured, losing an eye.  The pagers, including the one used by the ambassador, beeped for about 10 seconds before exploding, prompting some victims to hold the devices close to their eyes and faces to check for a message.

Live blog articles below,   link.
Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amini, lost one eye and severely injured his other eye when a pager he was carrying exploded in a simultaneous wave of blasts targeting wireless electronic devices, according to two members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps briefed on the attack.

The Guards members, who had knowledge of the attacks and spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said Mr. Amini’s injuries were more serious than Iran initially reported and that he would be medevacked to Tehran for treatment.

Hossein Soleimani, the editor in chief of Mashregh, the main Revolutionary Guards news website, confirmed the extent of Mr. Amini’s injuries in a post on X. “Unfortunately the injuries sustained by Iran’s ambassador were extremely severe and in his eyes,” Mr. Soleimani wrote.

A video of Mr. Amini being transported to the hospital, published by Iranian news media outlets, shows him on a chaotic Beirut street with his eyes covered by bandages and the front of his white shirt covered in blood.

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, condemned the attack in a call with Lebanon’s foreign minister and said Iran was ready to medevac the ambassador and other injured people to Iran for medical treatment if needed, according to a statement released by his office. He spoke to Mr. Amini’s wife in Beirut and wished the ambassador a speedy recovery, the statement said.

The attacks appeared to mostly target members of Hezbollah, a political and militia group backed and supported by Iran. Hezbollah and Israel have engaged in intense clashes across their borders since the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attacks on Israel last year. Hezbollah accused Israel, which did not comment, of responsibility for the blasts.

Narges Ghadirian, the ambassador’s wife, said in a post on X earlier on Tuesday that her husband “is slightly injured but thank God he is all right and the danger has passed.”

Iranian media reported that two of the ambassador’s bodyguards were also injured because they were carrying pagers that exploded. Tasnim News agency, which is affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, said similar devices also exploded in Syria.

One of the Guards members said the pagers, including the one used by the ambassador, beeped for about 10 seconds before exploding, prompting some victims to hold the devices close to their eyes and faces to check for a message. The two Guards members said the pagers were used only by Hezbollah members and operatives and not widely distrusted among ordinary citizens.

Lebanon’s foreign minister, Abdallah Bou Habib, said the country was bracing for a major retaliation by Hezbollah. “If Israel thinks by this that they’re going to return their displaced people from the north of Israel, they are mistaken. This escalates this war,” Bou Habib said in a phone call with The New York Times.

The plan was to detonate the pagers during a major Israeli attack.  The plan was about to be discovered, so they blew up half of Hezbollah's middle management early.

As it is, they are asking for oral surgeons and veterinarians to go to hospitals to help, and Lebanon doesn't have enough eye surgeons to treat the wounded.  Seems like more than "so little".

I just would have thought spectators of party vs party would take offence with the use of indiscriminate weapons within civilian population.  I get that definitions of civilian, terrorist and indiscriminate are fluid, I guess I am just old fashioned.  I was equally surprised with the use of an explosive device on a robot a few years back to get kill a citizen who was out of ammunition and barricaded in a parking garage.  I was talking with a coworker today and the conversation drifted to the aerosol fentanyl used by FSB and he said, "wow, how humane", I was dumbfounded, but had to agree it is better way to go than some alternatives.  I digress, it was just a surprised that more of the planet doesn't align with my internal  concept of honor in conflict if not at least publicly, I mean what is next poisoning your political rivals lol (sarcasm).   I guess I just see it a slippery slope from use in war to use in law enforcement, to a monopoly on justice.  The end of dualling was the end of societies, explosive pagers, well if that is the game we are going to play it is going to get wild.  Disappointment isn't the thought I was trying to convey, but as I reflect there is a bit cognitive dissonance, it is easy to admire cunning.  Agreed Israel doesn't always project the same as we have come to expect from the west and they are often not on their information warfare game, so it is difficult to speculate what it is official.  It is historic!

Israel will be mapping out injuries, hospital admissions, social media posts, electronic communications, news footage, and medical records, linking them all to people who had these pagers today. Forget the injuries and deaths; Israel just created a massive and growing trove of intelligence, family ties, co conspirators, foot soldiers and alot opf the officer corps.

Just my 2 ducats. Israel was monitoring their phones, and tracking them so they decided to go to pagers to prevent Israel from eating their lunch. Apparently someone got a the team a group buy on these, so they were going to known bad guys. You will probably see injured "aid workers" as well from several organizations. The same ones the terrorists use the basements of. It's a brilliant move.

Mobilized servicemen appealed to the Governor of Altai Krai with a request for help, stating that they wanted to send them to the assault without any preparation.

Lazarev Boris Evgenievich , born August 8, 1999, and Skorik Sergei Sergeevich , born in 1994, natives of the Altai Territory, serve in the 1st platoon of the repair and recovery company of the 1442nd regiment (military unit 95383).

They said that during mobilization they were promised service in the rear, but despite this, they wanted to send them to the assault:
"We were tightening screws, we were repairing equipment. Everything seemed to be fine. But it didn't last that long."

According to them, the reason for such a decision by the command is the lack of personnel. Now they are planning to send people who have not undergone even minimal training to the assault:
"Due to the fact that there are large losses on the front line, they decided to use us to plug the holes... Without any training, without the ability to shoot, without the ability to provide any medical assistance, they send us to the assault, that is, to the front as cannon fodder. They just want to plug the holes with us."
The soldiers reported that they refused to storm the building for the first time. For this they were beaten and warned that they would soon storm it anyway:
"We don't know what to do with this. So please help us... We are just tired. We want to go home, to our families, wives, children."

A rather good post by Mal_means_bad in the Pager Explosion Thread:

LINKY

The Iranian ambassador, the son of a VIP, etc at the top got hit, most of the casualties on video are well fed middle aged men in polos and slacks (captains and senior lieutenants?), and a handful of them are skinny poor looking flip-flop wearing young dudes on scooters (squad leaders?).  There'd be more skinny young guys wounded if every squad leader got a pager, instead the majority of the wounded seem to be fat and in their mid thirties and forties, thus middle ranks.  So it appears every level of the Hezbollah officer corps got hit, but disproportionately in the middle and higher ranks, which makes perfect sense if senior officers got the new pagers first and the dregs slowly trickled down to the shooters as new gear often does.

Hezbollah claims to be 100,000 men, but before 10/7 independent estimates started at 20,000 active plus 20,000 reserve and topped out at 50,000.  So let's say 50,000 and suppose there's one officer for every five boots as in the US Army, thus 8,333 officers.  If so 3,900 casualties from pager bombs (so far) is 46% of their officer corps incapacitated.

Pagers tied to a company in Budapest--their business sign was a piece of paper taped to the door.  Article from X post below

Media sources first reported that Hezbollah had recently ordered 5,000 of the latest model of pager from Gold Apollo, a Taiwanese company, which Gold Apollo then denied.

The company's CEO, Hsu Ching-Kuang, told reporters on Wednesday that the pagers involved in Tuesday's explosions bear the Taiwan company's logo but were not manufactured by it, the state-run Central News Agency (CNA) reported.

According to the CEO, the pagers were reportedly designed and manufactured by a company based in Hungary called BAC. "As per the agreement, we authorize BAC to use our brand trademark for product sales in specific regions, but the design and manufacturing of the products are entirely handled by BAC," Ching-Kuang stated.

The stated address for BAC Consulting in Budapest was a building on a mostly residential street in an outer suburb. The company name was posted on the glass door on an A4 sheet.

A person at the building who asked not to be named said BAC Consulting was registered at the address but did not have a physical presence there. Several other companies were also registered at that address, though none answered telephone calls and physical inquiries from Reuters.

The CEO of BAC Consulting, Cristiana Barsony-Arcidiacono says on her LinkedIn profile that she has worked as an adviser for various organizations including UNESCO. She did not respond to emails from Reuters. The company website makes no reference to manufacturing.

According to high-level regional intelligence sources speaking to Al-Monitor on Wednesday, the decision to carry out the Israeli-attributed pager attack was "imposed" on Israel following an intelligence breach that involved two Hezbollah operatives who discovered that the devices had been tampered with.

The report adds that Israel's original plan was to detonate the pagers only in the event of a full-blown war with Hezbollah in order to gain a strategic advantage over the organization, but was forced to detonate on Tuesday.

Not much more explosives (maybe less) than in a blasting cap. I'm very curious about the explosive used and how triggered. Probably a similar type and design to an electrical blasting cap. PETN? C4, like most explosives would need a separate blasting cap or similar to initiate which takes away too much space in the pager. Tiny amounts of explosives are hard to use/trigger. The damage from the pagers looks more than from a typical blasting cap.

Hopefully we will never learn the exact details but I would not be surprised if some pagers failed to blow and will be examined by Iran, China, etc.

Could be Neptune, could also be Stormshadow.  The decision was reportedly close, and someone said the warning would be when Stormshadow lands on targets.

No way to tell if its disinformation, but if the story is true that two Hezbollah randos discovered the tampering, it means that they have monitoring from the pagers, ergo they have a shitload of info on Hezbollah now.
