Is the Sandbox app, a legit way to communicate with family members in the military?

It worked great for recruits in boot but can't speak for afterwards.

For me, they received their cell phones after boot and no longer needed sandbox as they were stateside.

Totally legit. Worked very well in basic for my son at Ft. Sill as well as his AIT. We had two of my son's friends join roughly the same time as my son and it worked well for them too.
