This sticky is in response to a request for a repository of links that those interested in the various types of shaving can refer to.
I will add to this first post any links of value posted within the thread. Feel free to contribute links with tips, tricks, videos, great deals, solid products, and excellent reference sources. The Arfcom of shaving is Badger and Blade Their Wiki and FAQ is probably the best on the web. The Art of Shaving has an extensive selection of products, and has become a retail mecca across the country. For those that like the standard cartridge shave, Dollar Shave Club has several subscription plans to keep the cost low, and the supply steady. Plus they have great commercials. For those that like DSC, but want to save even more, go right to the source, and order from Dorco, USA who manufactures, and rebrands for DSC, and other brand name products. Another good review and gear site is The Sharpologist where you can also find some Wet Shave How-To videos |

I find that a wash clothe saturated with hot water and pressed over the shaving area until
it just starts to cool softens my growth and makes shaving a short task. Blades appear to last longer because the hairs are swollen and soft. The hair on my face is relatively thick. As in larger diameter and stiff. It will jamb most electric razors making them a complete non-starter. Soften it up with hot water and just about any razor will do a fine job. Even the single blade cartridge 'disposable' ones. Especially if they are rinsed under straight hot water and then shaken dry as possible. The hot metal dries out faster and minimizes corrosion time. I have only been at it for 48 years. Started at age 11. |
