A lot of redundancy with similar Glocks in 9mm. The last panic didn’t affect .40. .40 guns are dirt cheap right now. LGS has a LNIB USP Compact in .40 for $450

Too bad the USP never offered a 10mm. It would be be perfect in that chambering.

Absolutely.

You're at a time in your life when you should enjoy the finer things.  USP and 40 is like champagne and caviar.  Glock 9mm is a St.Ides and gubmint cheese.

If you are wanting to get down to one ergo and trigger mechanic I say yes.

For any other reason I say no.

But really a 48 does most of what the 19 did, so Get a 48 and HKs to replace the 17s.

What are you gaining?  What costs are you paying?

Is .40 better enough to deal with snappy recoil, a dying cartridge, fewer rounds in the mag, and in your case.... much more expensive and harder to find parts (because hk hates civilians with guns)?

To me, it does not make sense.  If it makes sense to you, then by all means use your freedom and make a different choice.

Now if you were just adding the usp because they are cool guns..... I'd think it was a better idea..... but switching totally over to .40 is not something I'd consider, and switching totally to hk is also something I wouldn't do.  Even the compact version is rather girthy.

Absolutely.....not.  Been one for sale on a local gun classifieds for over 2 years. Guy asking $600. Price seems little high for a used pistol but I think the 40 cal is the main reason for no interest.

The HK USP is an excellent, super reliable pistol. I've owned 10+ HK pistols in the last few years, still have many.

In my opinion, the USP45 is the only pistol in the USP full size line that truly shines for what it is.

Think on it. The USP9 is reliable as hell, but its big. More clunky than a comparable G17, with less capacity and more difficult to source parts. The USP40 is the same, but in the gross 40 cartridge.

The 45 on the other hand, decent capacity for its size, better than any 45cal Glock offering, the FN models are cheaply made in comparison, SIG is ok if vintage, but passable newer models. USP45 is easily suppressed and supremely reliable with a can.

I think that in 9mm, the best available pistol today is the G19 Gen 5. I think that the best currently available 45 is the USP45. HK45 is a close second but there are a few issues holding it back.

The one major upside to your 40 choice is that the USP's dual recoil spring handles the round very well.

pic just because

All this - and if you shoot it better and you dig the platform, roll on.

Happy with my USP's - HKs in general, CZ,"s, Sig, 1911, -  my two CQBs are my fav pistols.

But I'm demonstrably better with 19/17. Given experience it makes sense. Guess what I carry, have the most of and depend on.

Beyond validation some good thoughts here - but I'd stick with whatever  you shoot - actively and trained - best

I am probably the biggest Glock hater here.

But you should keep at least one.

Glock parts are everywhere and that's why you should keep at least one.

This.

USP = huge and not great ergonomics.

IE, a larger, more expensive Glock.

Keep the Glocks.

A lot of the anti .40 crowd are the pedestrian types.  Get their info from Guns and Ammo, and the internet, their brother in law who used to be a cop in Alabama.

They don't know that the USP was designed around the .40.  Unlike their G22.

So if the price is right, yes on a .40 USP.  Get the LEM trigger.  It is in a different league than a Glock.

Then the anti .40 crowd will say the 9mm has made advances in bullet design; as if those designs are only available in 9mm.

A consideration tho is that there are a lot more aftermarket parts for a GLock.  You will end up in a dead end or an expensive custom-only situation when there would be tons of Glock options.  Light mounting is a cluster.

It tells me a lot about someone when they say a USP .40 is no good.

40 was a round that found its niche in the era of magazine limits. If you could only have 10 rounds and you didn't have room for 10 rounds of 45 without making the grip bigger, 40 made some sense. 10mm was a hot thing back then as well, but people recognized that it was too hot for most shooters. 10mm light was a common definition of the 40. Modern ammo slimmed the gap in effectiveness to basically nothing, most states don't have 10 round limits, and the high barrel position in the HK makes 40's snap particularly annoying. It's a lot faster to get the second round on target with the 9. Longer strings are even easier because it isn't trying to shift in your hand nearly as much, requiring less of a death grip... I like 9 and 45 for semi autos, they do their respective things well. Trying to fit in between just gives you issues. If I want more snap I at least want better results to go with it. Gimme that 10, or a 357 Sig, or switch to a revolver and something with a serious improvement in power.

I had a USP-C in 40, didn't like it nearly as much as I like the one I got in 9 to replace it. Oh, and while I love my USP-C in 9, I'm strongly considering going to Glock or the Sig P320. Industry adoption and system flexibility goes a long way toward countering the pretty engineering of the HK.

Exactly. With target ammo or modern defensive ammo .40 outperforms the 9mm. It has a slightly heavier recoil. But we're talking tenths of a second to get back on target. They typically hold -2 rounds. But we're not talking a choice between 5 or 7 rounds. Were talking 13 to 15 rounds or 15 to 17.

Paul Harrells tests on 40 vs 9 indicates this and the agency I work for did their own tests with the ammo we carry and .40 out-performed 9mm. In a compact weapon I'd say your better off going 9mm. Or if you can only afford one kind of ammo. But to argue that 9mm is superior to a .40 in a full size gun is just ignorant.

.40 ammo is typically always in stock as well which is another perk.
