I never understood the reason for the bobtail. Does the sharp edge of the magwell bother you? If so, grow a sack.

I like Bobtails and have several.  But I prefer an arched mainspring housing.

OK. You may be right. But seriously. What is the purpose other than fancy stuff on a 1911?

This is the 1911 equivalent of stippling your Glock 19 with a waffle iron.

Bobbing the tail reduces a bit of printing. It's just one less sharp-ish corner jamming into your jacket/coat or car seat. Unless done to extremes, it has zero effect on functionality.

Here's another one. I kind of wonder what I was thinking on this one.

It's an old pic, kinda poor quality as well.

It hit muzzle down right? So the firing pin spring was worn or did the safety notches break?

The dumbest possible modification to a 1911 ever conceived.

That corner might print some in a non aiwb holster but it certainly doesn't jam in to me

The bobtail softens the carry silhouette appreciably. If you're wearing a shirt that tends to print you don't have that sharp apex at the terminal point of the grip. It's a small difference, but if you're seriously intent on carrying a 1911 it's worth considering.

I've been CCWing my DW VBOB for 12+ years in a Milt Sparks OWB pancake. It's the tits at the range, and the Commander dimensions fit me perfectly. YMMV, but it gets handed off to a lot of curious people and I hear, "holy shit that's a nice shooter" from all manner of striker carry guys.

I think it probably helps more to conceal behind the hip than aiwb.

Can't speak for anyone else except myself:  I've lusted for a S&W Model 39 since - at least - the mid 70's.  My S&W SW1911SC scratched that itch.
