Sorry, all I have right now is a Reddit post with discord messages and an official press release.

Only reason I made a thread about it was because I couldn’t believe there wasn’t one.

I’m not emotionally invested for or against Sig either way, but if this ends up being a defect that they knew about…not a good look.

At this point in my life I have never bought a single SIG-made firearm and now that we are past the days of the 220/226 I don't understand you people who even know what they make anymore, much less actually buy them.

Honestly I think if I was in the mil. and forced to carry a SIG unless I was directly in harms way and likely to see combat I might just carry unchambered.

Hi Point never pretended to be good, and they seem to be safer.

I have thought for over a decade people were getting out of hand with the short trigger pulls and light break on striker fired guns.

Nobody runs around with an M9 let alone a 1911 cocked an on fire.

But some after market triggers were that or worse.

And on a game gun, well- OK.

And I saw a lot of people jump on the 320 in gun games.

I think combining a short, light trigger on a striker gun, without a trigger activator, - as general issue to the masses was not a great idea.

I did buy an M17 and M18 because I have all the .mil issue guns.
I assumed the safety was more than a trigger safety.
It did take me by surprise how quick it was adopted and fielded.

I think a lot of the 320 firings were negligent discharges. And wrong holsters, etc.
But add in the narrow trigger guard, flex in the frame, etc. And yeah- there are some legit accidental discharges.
Between being retardedly prone to NDs and having legit ADs…

I believe the platforms time for a ride into the sunset has come.
And I think I gave it a serious benefit of the doubt and above average objective consideration.

I feel horrible for his family.  Sure, people join the military for multiple reasons….but dying in this case will never make sense to them.

M18 has a safety? AF is carrying safety off, like they did with the M9?

The lack of reporting on rampant M17/18 issues is the last thing that kept me skeptical.

The manual safety has nothing to do with the 320 issues.

Edit:

P226 was always my “dream” gun but I couldn’t afford it in my 20s and now I’ve held off in my 30s due to all these Sig issues. I just have no desire to give them money. I already have a WW1 Colt 1911 .45acp so no real interest in another 1911 either. Maybe I’ll just grab a CZ 75 when I finally decide to splurge on a hammer fire full size.

Its not a true mechanical style safety.  It only prevents one from pulling the trigger, but has nothing else.

This has nothing to do with trigger pull asThe m18 and m17 safeties fully block trigger movement regardless of the lack of a trigger dingus.

The issue is with the striker and/or sear releasing regardless of trigger movement; exacerbating the issue is the difficult in trying to diagnose and replicate it, as well as dogs continued head in the sand response of “there is no problem”

Had secondary testing proceeded during the MHS as it was supposed to, it’s possible this could’ve been discovered and fixed before anyone died(this is what, the third person now?)

Hi Points are ugly but I've been impressed w/ the reliability and accuracy of the few I've shot.   One guy at the range bought one on a whim because it was cheap and then passed it around for everyone to shoot.   It ran and was accurate.  Ugly as hell and chunky but it did what it was supposed to do.

Unconfirmed 2nd, and the 1st is presumed a UD by the Internet and presumed an ND by SIG, currently in court.

AFGSC = Air Force Global Strike Command

USAFE = US Air Forces in Europe and Africa

These are very large, "major command" elements.

If the AD/UD happened on July 20, AFGSC has already made the decision to discontinue use of M18s, and USAFE might follow, I think that says a lot.

agree.

all my pistols are da/sa hammer fired and it will stay that way.  traded the Glock off years back for a SIG 2340, never looked back.  don't care for striker fired.

Yes m18 and m17 has a thumb safety. I believe it is only a trigger safety that blocks trigger movement and interaction with the sear.

There’s better experts on this topic but I believe the AD’s that are occurring could still happen with the m18 thumb safety engaged.

It’s possible the airman didn’t have the thumb safety engaged too.

When I was issued the M9, I never used the thumb safety (cause it’s da/sa) but do with my issued M18, even though it may not really stop the AD issue.
