Yeah but that 8th rd might throw the balance off. I went with 7.

Bought it used back in the '90s.  I think I paid around $250 for it.  Colt hadn't discontinued its double-action revolver lines at the time, and this one was "ugly" compared to a new Python or King Cobra. No box, but it came with a Trooper MK IV manual (I have the manual somewhere, but it would take a lot of effort to find it).

@AmateurLuthier, the Peace Keeper is a MKV Trooper. They were made for one year during the labor strike at Colt. They had Troopers waiting to be assembled, but they didn't have the skilled labor to buff and blue them. So they just parkerized them and labeled them as Peace Keepers.

Yes

Some were new, others were deals at gun shows, some are trades, some are through gun shops that sell police auctioned surplus. I also hit up estate sales. The six inch Ruger Security Six for example. I traded a four inch S&W Model 66 to a buddy of mine. The Python in the photos was from an estate sale. The six inch S&W Model 686 was from a gun shop I used to work at. Came in as a trade and I bought it.

Question for OP, how did you get your collection? Bought new? Gun shows? Trades? Police auction?

You posted pictures of numerous very nice wheel guns, what's their stories?

Yes

Cool, how many years do you have in the collection? Essentially when did you buy the first one, because I assume you are still collecting.

Went into North 40 for the first time in a while this morning. I was surprised to see a 6" and a 3" Python in the case, both polished SS...$1,599 and 1,499. I was kind of tempted to ask if they had a small flashlight, I really wanted to take a look at the rifling.

They had a waiting list...supply must be catching up, at least around here.

Do you have a light on your phone?

It seems all of the Sportman's Warehouse in Utah have a good supply of the new Pythons.  All $1499 with 3",4" and 6" available.   I'm tempted to get a 6".

Don't own a phone.

They were nice looking, but the high polish wouldn't be my first choice. Wonder how the bluing compares to the originals...

This thread is timely. I'm considering putting a scope on a 6" 357 for a "super target" handgun.

which 6" 357 is most suitable for a scoped target build? A single action like the Blackhawk?

@MRW, if you want to scope a revolver, the easiest is actually a Taurus Tracker.

Now, the current Smith are drilled and tapped under the adjustable rear sight too.

I only have my grandfathers 19-3 k frame and the factory grip sucks and is uncomfortable so it's a safe queen. It's nice to look at though.

I agree.  5 inch barreled revolvers are the sweet spot between the too stubby 4", and the too long 6".

I have a 629 and 686 in the 5" versions, and really like both.

Five inch guns are great, but six inch models are just awesome too.
