I’m considering buying a used Porsche as a daily driver. So something not pristine, no skinny tires on 21 inch rims that will get destroyed on NY roads. I need it to be a cabriolet. Leaning towards auto but manual is ok. I’m aware of the IMS issue. I’ve been thinking ( maybe incorrectly) a carrera S or carrera 4S ? Any real world info is much appreciated

Get a CPO at your local Porsche dealership.
They have been inspected, all maintenance is up to date, all wear items are 50% or less, and come with a two year unlimited miles warranty on top of any remaining factory warranty. Any modern 911 has more than enough power to get you into trouble. Some desirable options are sports chrono, premium package, keyless entry and drive, sports exhaust, Bose sound, heated and ventilated seats, and rear axle steering. If you get a 991.2 it comes with Apple carplay standard, and the turbocharged engines can put out massively more power with just an ECU tune. So far in my price range I’m seeing the carrera S and 4S cabrio. Depending on condition anything from early 2000s in mint low mileage condition to mid 2010s in crazy high mileage condition. Optimally I’d like to keep spending to $50k or less, less is way better lol. But I’ve considered getting a loan and going as high as $70k, I prefer not to unless there’s a good reason though

The 718 cayman is nice. You should at least look at a used one even if your dead set on a 911.
I just built a nice brand new one for 80k on the website. Not that I'm buying one anytime soon. good luck. |

I don’t trust my local KC Porsche dealer, and the car’s previous owners mechanic doesn’t want to work. I replaced the front bump stops myself, the Porsche dealership missed checking the bump stops during the 60k service. Car drives a little loose in steering and a little bumpy suspension-wise. I would like to get it to drive as new. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you in advance! |

OP, you can get a very nice 996 or 997 for under $50k. As mentioned in the other thread, get a PPI so you avoid surprises. Many Porsche owners will have maintenance records so look for those. You mentioned a convertible. That’s what I drive and I love it. You do want to make sure the PPI covers the convertible top cylinders as they can leak (as mine did), but they can be rebuilt.

Run away from hybirds Diesels are ok but if they aren't deleted they have a lot of emissions issues. Big issue with diesels is they all will need a reseal due to a mistake at the assembly line. It's a huge jib. Besides transfer case the only other 958 issues are leather dashboards the leather shrinks. The non leather door panels seprate and aren't repairable and real expensive to fix |

If you get one, get something that you know has been checked out. If not, you could be looking at repair bills in excess of the purchase price.
Used Porsches (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, etc) are only for people that afford really expensive maintenance. Just budget that stuff in right from the beginning. |

No engine issues and less price flucation with the market. They were the first "supercar" absolutely wonderful cars... but they are 20+ years old now. If you want something newer get a 997.2 with a manual trans. Pdk is expensive when it breaks. The 997 is a good car and the .2 is absolutely the best engine in a non turbo 911 since the 90s. No ims issues. Honestly I like 991s too but the bean counters cheapend up the build materials and they wear poorly, lots of ittle nitpicking things that break or need work and they usually look older then they are. |

The 993 was the first car porache stopped trying to keep water out and instead just control the flow.
Works great till the drains plug. 996/997/cayene/986/987/panamera,macan all have some type of drain that could be an issue. Pull the cowl drain plugs on everything. Cut the evap and sunroof drains on everything |
