Unfortunately I cannot recommend this shave soap. It has a wonderful aroma and that's as far as it goes. Thin lather that wouldn't build. Very little if any discernible slickness and drying to the skin. Face-lathering using a well-worn Omega boar brush. The first try was using an Astra blade on its 2nd use and the second try was with a new Derby blade (which admittedly don't much care for). ETA: I mistakenly thought this soap was a Sudsy Soapery product. It isn't. It's Stirling. Aaaaand...I just placed an order for a tub of STIRLING lime so we'll see how that works out.

I haven't tried the soap but I do have the matching Witch Hazel and Aloe aftershave and it is great (for me). It sucks that you had problems with the actual soap. When doing lather trial runs, what worked for me was a lather (face lathering) that resembles very wet paint or spackle instead of a lot of foam. The razor just glides like an eel with great results. |

The tub of Stirling Lime was not in my order from Maggard Razors. They substituted with their own brand of "Limes and Bergamot" tallow-based shaving soap which is made for them by Through The Fire. It's $2 more than Stirling so it wasn't like I got ripped. The stuff smells amazing! ETA: and it's not a bad shaving soap, either. Though not as slick as Sudsy Soapery tallow soap it is more slick than Stirling so there's that. |

Tried the Stirling soap again this afternoon with a fresh Astra blade with the same results. The soap is simply not slick and is very drying. My standard method of application is face-lathering and I definitely "paint" it on after doing an extended period of loading the brush. For me, it just doesn't work very well. Fortunately The Soapy Sudsery is having their big B2G1F + free shipping + free bar of bayberry soap sale. |

Results greatly improved with this Stirling soap when "blooming" it with very hot water for about 10 minutes while I'm in the shower. In fact, using my el cheapo Sally Beauty DE razor and an Astra platinum blade on its 2nd use I got what has to be one of the best DE shaves I've had in my 11 years of doing this. I'm face lathering. Don't own a lathering bowl but considering an "Indestructabowl" from Shave Nation. |
